What a night, and what an honour to perform at the penultimate event of Waterford's Imagine Arts Festival 2026 In Memories We Grow.
Last night, we shared myths that have endured for generations, woven together with our own music, poetry and original songs, born from the shared creative magic of our collaboration.

There is something so special about what we create together, each bringing our own gifts, inspirations and ways of expressing the stories that move us.
Words sometimes find their way to me while I'm driving, sitting in sacred places, or simply listening to what wants to be spoken. Poetry and lyrics are brought to life by the wonderful Maggie O'Neill, who creates with such heart, imagination and creativity. And then there is the extraordinary Michelle Murphy, whose songs and incredible musicianship leave me in utter awe every time I watch her play any one of the many instruments she has mastered. And John, the rhythmic heartbeat beneath it all, the pulse, an chuisle, grounding and carrying us through the stories.
(We missed you last night, Seán! Our full circle wasn't quite complete without you.)

Together, we weave spoken word, story, poetry, melody and rhythm into original songs that embody the myths we share. It is a deeply collaborative process, one that continues to surprise and enchant us as it unfolds.
Our hope is always to enchant our audience as deeply as we ourselves are enchanted by the Great Mystery.

Last night, we journeyed through the stories of Samhain, called upon the protection and fierce strength of An Cailleach, Goddess of Winter, and told the epic tale of Lugh Samildánach, inviting us all to live with a little more wonder, courage and willingness to embrace the extraordinary.
There is something profoundly moving about gathering in a room to share stories that have travelled through centuries, stories that continue to speak to us, shape us and remind us of our place within the great unfolding mystery of life.

To everyone who came, listened, sang, laughed and entered the world of these stories with us, thank you. You are as much a part of their telling as we are.

And to Imagine Arts Festival, míle buíochas!

Fire and Air | The Sahara Desert

Long days on winding roads through the Atlas Mountains brought us extraordinary cultural encounters, all lovingly curated by Noureddine, whose knowledge and love of his homeland opened so many portals. Noureddine Oukhouya

And then, the Sahara! Entering the desert was an initiation in itself. The vastness, the silence, the wind and stars invited us to meet ourselves differently.
Here, we entered the alchemy of Fire and Air.

Through breathwork, Ginny Gill, a woman of extraordinary integrity and depth, guided us into a deeper relationship with Air, with our breath and the living world. Ginny | Therapeutic Breathwork

My beloved sister of the soul and cherished co-creator, Sara Bowman, shared the practice of Focusing: the profound art of communicating with ourselves without running, fixing or intervening. Simply the compassionate, respectful act of noticing. Sara | Artist, Somatic Guide, Yoga Therapist

I was deeply honoured to share ritual practices for communicating with the greater powers and the more-than-human world, checking in with our guides, sacred companions and spirit kin, always seeking integrity and right relationship.

A desert tree, the Apple of S***m, Calotropis procera, became part of our story, its wood feeding our sacred fire, its powerful nature reminding us of the humility and respect owed to the living world.

Sara, my deepest gratitude for our sacred collaboration. For all that begins in the crucible of our imaginations and, through love and care, comes alive in the world.

To my desert brothers, Noureddine and Mohamed, who shared their local traditions of singing and drumming, weaving the rhythms and voices of the desert into the very magic of our experience. And to the entire Moroccan team who tended to us so beautifully, with such generosity and care.

To everyone who travelled with us, to the people we met along the way, to our visible and invisible companions, to the trees, the fire, the wind and the Sahara herself.

To the great elemental powers of Fire and Air,

I bow. I bow. I bow.
With all my heart. 💚

IN MEMORIES WE GROW.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Imagine Arts Festival Waterford, and we are absolutely delighted to be part of it.

Lila Music Mantra Myth

The theme this year feels particularly close to our hearts: In Memories We Grow.

Because what is storytelling if not that?

The old stories live because we keep telling them. They change in the mouths and hearts of each generation, but somewhere underneath are the old bones, the memory and the mystery.

Community, place, ancestry, imagination.

The stories that have travelled down to us have new things to say when we gather
together and listen.

We’re telling one of the great Irish epics,
from the extraordinary birth of Lugh,
through his arrival at Tara as Samildánach,
the Many-Skilled One,
and all the way to the Second Battle of Moytura.

But, as always with us,
the story is only the beginning.

There’ll be insights and imbas of Samhain,
An Cailleach, the turning of the year
and the Otherworld.

Woven through the story is original song and music compositions,
fite fuaite, as Gaeilge agus as Béarla.

It's a holistic hooley, if you will.

And, sure, who knows what might come through on the night....
a few downloads from the stones & the bones & the wise and well ancestors would not be unusual for a Lila gig.

It feels very special to bring these ancient stories into the heart of Waterford as part of a festival that has spent 25 years championing art, imagination, creativity and story in this city.

Come celebrate 25 years of Imagine with us.
Come raise your voice.
Come listen to the new songs in old stories.

Come step into the story.

Equinox 🌥️

At dawn on Wednesday, I gathered with my fellow Coire Sois priestesses at Sliabh na Caillí for the Autumn Equinox.

There is an old Irish sovereignty tale, Echtra mac nEchach Muigmedóin, The Adventure of the Sons of Eochaid Muigmedón, probably composed in the medieval period from around the 11th century onwards, and preserved in manuscripts including the Book of Ballymote, written c. 1390–91, but founded in oral tradition of many, many years before.

In the story, the young Niall encounters an ancient, fearsome woman guarding a well.
Where others recoil from her,
Niall embraces her fully.
With that, she transforms before him and
reveals who she truly is:

“Misi in Flaithius.” (Medieval Irish)
“Mise an Flaitheas.” (Modern Irish)
“I am Sovereignty.”

most commonly quoted from the
Yellow Book of Lecan and the Book of Ballymote.

That old woman was, and still is,
the land in her sovereign form.
She is the one who bestows kingship.
Sovereignty is not seized from her.
It is hers to give to the worthy.
She is An Cailleach.

At Sliabh na Caillí, my teacher Deirdre Wadding asked me to embody An Cailleach for our Equinox ceremony, and to act as an oracle (a skill taught and honed on Deirdre's Priestess of The Sacred Land training) through which her blessings might be offered to those gathered on the hill.

It was an extraordinary honour.
And she most definitely turned up.

I never take experiences like this lightly.
To step into relationship with these old stories, these places and the beings and powers they hold is work that continually humbles me.
I am incredibly grateful to Deirdre, to my priestess sisters, to everyone who gathered with us, and to An Cailleach herself.

Sliabh na Caillí is also one of the sacred landscapes we return to through Oak & Willow. Next September, trainees will make pilgrimage to these hills as part of the teacher training.

I had intended to close the Early Bird this week, but I’m going to leave it open until Sunday, just in case this speaks to someone who has been wondering about Oak & Willow and wants to enquire.

I am not into grand sales pitches.
I'll just leave an auld open door
for a few more days.

THE BALANCE

Efen (Old English) / Cothrom (Irish)
even • equal • level • in balance

Eorðlufu (Old English) / Tenalach (Irish)
earth-love • kinship with the land

At the Autumn Equinox we reach a brief moment of evenness. Day and night meet before the balance tips towards the darker half of the year.

But what can the living world teach us about balance?

Perhaps it isn't something fixed that we finally achieve, but a continual conversation between fullness and emptiness, light and darkness, activity and rest, harvesting and sacrificing.

From 17th–24th September, Sam and Sarah invite you to spend a week living through the Equinox with us.

We meet for two spacious online evenings, with five hours of live teaching, storytelling and practice. Between them, we'll alternate daily invitations through our private WhatsApp group, designed to take you away from the screen and into your own landscape.

We give you the invitations.
You wander off and see what happens.

Expect foraging, herbal medicine, traditional craft, storytelling, folklore, meditation, sensory practice and animism.

We'll work with the September harvest: rosehips, elderberries, blackberries and haws, making syrups, vinegars, fermentations, preserves and more.

We'll journey through Cormac's Cup, Demeter & Persephone, Amaterasu and An Cailleach, alongside the Irish Three Cauldrons and Three Worlds.

And we'll carry three questions:

What restores balance?
What must be gathered?
What must be surrendered?

There is no pressure to complete everything.

The space between is yours to walk, gather, make, listen and notice what is ripening and what is beginning to fall away.

🌾 THE HARVEST: Foraging for the Stories of the Land

📍 Saturday 8th August 2026 | 10.00am–1.00pm (in person)
💻 Sunday 9th August 2026 | 6.30pm–9.30pm (Zoom)

Join this Lúnasa gathering with Sarah Fox and Sam Gravestock.

Stories have always helped us understand where we are, who we are, and how we might live.

In this gathering, we will explore storytelling as both an ancient craft and a living practice of relationship. We will work with archetype, theme and recurring motifs in folklore, discovering how myth can become a map through the complexities of our own lives.

Sarah will share the story of Lugh Samildánach, the many-gifted one. Through storytelling, reflection and embodied practice, we will explore how inherited myths can help us recognise our gifts, find our voices and understand the stories unfolding within us.

Alongside the old stories, Sam will invite us to forage for the stories of the land as it is speaking now.

The lore of a place is not found only in ancient manuscripts. It lives in river names, wells, pathways, ruins, field boundaries, hills, woodlands and townlands. It also lives in the encounters and impressions that arise when we slow down and pay attention.

At a time of deep disconnection from land, gathering these living tales can become an act of reconnection. By listening for the stories held within a place, we begin to weave ourselves back into the wider story of the land.

Together, we will explore inherited myth and lived experience, the ancient story and the story still being formed.

This gathering will include storytelling, land-based practice, somatic exploration and creative reflection, offering space to listen for the stories that have shaped you, the stories the land may be telling, and the stories you are ready to carry into the next season of your life.

Expect:
* Nature connection and sensory awareness practices
* Myth, folklore, and seasonal storytelling
* Somatic and embodied movement explorations.
* Plant connection and practical earth skills like nettle cordage and nettle seed preparation
* Ritual, reflection, and shared conversation and laughter.

EMBRACE THE ELEMENTS: FIRE & AIR
A Women’s Immersion in the Moroccan Sahara

10th–17th October 2026
8 days | 7 nights
Marrakech to Erg Chegaga

This is an invitation for just one more woman to join us in the Sahara. Is the call for you?

There are places where perception shifts like the sands, where the veil feels thin and what has been hidden begins to reveal itself.

This October, we will journey from Marrakech, across the High Atlas Mountains and through the ancient riverbeds of the Draa Valley, travelling deep into the Moroccan Sahara to the Great Dunes of Erg Chegaga.

At the heart of this immersion is an initiation into Fire and Air.

Fire as discernment, clarity and the courage to release what no longer belongs.

Air as breath, movement and the spaciousness in which a new direction can emerge.

Through yoga, somatic movement, meditation, breathwork, embodiment and plant ally initiations, we will meet the vastness and stillness of the desert together.

Rose will accompany us as our primary plant ally, supporting clarity of heart, devotion without self-sacrifice and fierceness held with tenderness.

Guided by our Amazigh hosts, we will enter the Sahara as respectful guests, honouring its seen and unseen inhabitants, leaving no trace and seeking the protection and blessing of the desert.

This is a small and intentional circle for women ready to listen deeply, meet their own threshold and become a better participant in life.

€3,350 shared accommodation
€1,000 deposit
Private accommodation available at an additional cost

Includes seven nights’ accommodation, all meals, airport transfers in Marrakech, private ground transport, luxury desert camp and full facilitation.

Held by Sara Bowman, Sarah Fox and Ginny Gill.

Previous retreat participants may reserve directly. If this is your first time working with us,
we invite you to arrange a short alignment call.
Send a DM to get the ball rolling.

Picture #1 is an offering Sam left today, made from lime bast cordage. It is completely biodegradable, returning to the earth as it slowly rots away.

In Ireland we have the ancient tradition of the clootie (or cloutie): a strip of cloth tied to a sacred tree with a prayer for healing. As the cloth naturally decays, so too does the illness, grief or burden carried within it.

During The Harvest, you'll learn how to create your own biodegradable prayer offerings with minimal impact on the ecosystem. By harvesting, preparing and twisting the cord yourself, the offering becomes deeply personal, carrying your time, care and intention.

We'll also harvest nettle to make cordage and prepare a traditional herbal remedy to support a healthy nervous system.

🌾 THE HARVEST: Foraging for the Stories of the Land

📍 Saturday 8th August 2026 | 10.00am–1.00pm (in person)
💻 Sunday 9th August 2026 | 6.30pm–9.30pm (Zoom)

Join Sarah Fox and Sam Gravestock for this Lúnasa gathering exploring storytelling as both an ancient craft and a living practice of relationship.

Through the story of Lugh Samildánach, somatic practice, land connection and creative reflection, we'll explore how myth helps us recognise our gifts, find our voices and understand the stories unfolding within our own lives.

We'll also learn to listen for the stories of the land itself, held in rivers, wells, paths, woodlands, ruins and place names, discovering that folklore is not only inherited from the past but continues to emerge through our relationship with place.

Together we'll weave ancient myth, living landscape and personal story into a meaningful harvest for the season ahead.

17/06/2026

At Summer Solstice, the wheel pauses.

The light stands at its fullest expression, and yet the turning has already begun.
From this point onwards, the days slowly
shorten and we begin our journey
towards the dark half of the year.

For our ancestors, these turning points mattered. They were times to gather in community, to listen, to tell stories, and to remember our place within the wider web of life.

At The Turning, Sam Gravestock & Sarah Fox will be exploring the idea of nature as a mirror and myth as a map.

Nature as a mirror because the more-than-human world has an extraordinary way of reflecting things back to us. Through practices such as the Wilderness Mirror, we can learn to pay attention to the seemingly ordinary encounters, creatures, places, weather, and moments that often carry exactly the teaching we need.

Myth as a map because stories help us navigate the human experience. They offer questions rather than answers.

We will draw inspiration from the Munster sovereignty tale of Áine and Ailill Aulom, the medieval Irish tale of Bricriu's Feast, a fourteenth-century poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, and the modern seasonal poetic construct of the Oak King and Holly King.

Áine asks:

Can you be in relationship rather than domination

The Green Knight asks:

Can you meet change, uncertainty, and mortality with honesty and honour?

Cú Roí asks:

Will you keep your word when the time comes?

The Oak King and Holly King ask:

Can you celebrate the height of the light while also honouring the wisdom of the coming dark?

These are not abstract questions.

They are universal questions.

How do we live with integrity?
How do we honour our commitments?
How do we stay in right relationship with the Land, our communities, and ourselves?
How do we find meaning in a world that often asks us to move faster than our souls can travel?

Through storytelling, nature connection, practical animism, deep listening, reflection, movement, conversation, and community,
we will explore what this
turning of the wheel is asking of each of us.

Come gather with us at the turning.
