A sincere thank you to Rita Hopkins from the Mayo Leader Programme for facilitating our latest Food Safety Programme in Ballycastle.

The training was held in the wonderful surroundings of the Ballinaglen Museum & Arts Centre, providing participants with valuable knowledge and practical guidance on food safety best practices.

It was great to see such engagement from everyone who attended, and we appreciate the support of the Mayo Leader Programme in helping us deliver this important training within the community.

To mark World Food Safety Day this Sunday, we asked members of our Scientific Committee how this year's theme, "From burden to solutions – safe food everywhere," connects to their work.

Dr Montserrat Gutierrez, Scientific Committee Member and Head of Food Microbiology Laboratories in the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, highlights the vital role of microbiological testing and scientific investigation in protecting public health.

🍽️World Food Safety Day is taking place this Sunday. To mark this important event in our calendar, the FSAI is highlighting the role of science and data in helping to inform and support efforts to reduce foodborne illness.

We have just published a report from our Scientific Committee on the risk ranking of microbiological hazards in food in Ireland.

Microbiological risk ranking helps identify the pathogens causing the greatest public health burden and supports a risk-based approach to food safety management, prevention and surveillance.

This year’s World Food Safety Day theme, β€œFrom burden to solutions – safe food everywhere”, reflects the importance of understanding the burden of foodborne disease so that effective, evidence-based solutions can be developed to protect public health.
