Congratulations to everyone who did the 5k this morning as the June-July Couch to 5k Class came to an end at Letterkenny Community Centre.
Well done to all, not least because we endured some horrible wet weather in the first two weeks not to mention the hot weather in recent weeks.

Some of those who did the trial run on Thursday were unable to make it today so are not pictured here.

A big thanks to the Run for Fun Letterkenny crew who came down to run and help out too.

Great to see our regulars from Kilmacrennan there once again too.

The next Couch to 5k Class begins again at the start of September (dates to be confirmed next week).

Note: Run For Fun Letterkenny meets on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.15 pm by the track.
This is a social running group and was set up for people who had done the Couch to 5k and who want to keep running. We do 5ks around the town in a non competitive manner. All welcome. €2 per night.

The latest Couch to 5k Class will graduate tomorrow morning, Sunday.
If anyone wants to give them some support, even to run some or part of it, they will be leaving the Letterkenny Community Centre at 10.00 am. Registration is from 9.30 am.
It's the smallest class ever not helped by the fact they had terrible wet and cold weather for the first couple of weeks and then had to endure some very hot weather so all credit to those who kept plugging away.

Almost there. This evening the current Couch to 5k class will do a trial 5k run.
Yes, the eight weeks are coming to a close.
A big congratulations to those who have stuck at in. The first few classes were hammered by terrible wet, cold and windy weather despite the fact that it was May!
Then we had some hot, hot evenings earlier this month.
So, again, well done to those who are still going along.

This evening, at the normal time of 6.30 pm, we will do our little trial 5k run.

This counts as completing the course. There is a medal and cert, but you can't get this until after Sunday.

On Sunday morning we will do a 5k, starting at 10am sharp. Registration at Letterkenny Community Centre from 9.30 am.
Fee €5 to cover medal, cert and refreshments. (Not payable if you paid in full at the start).

We will do a 5k route around the town (but you are not under any pressure to go out on the road and you can stay on the track if you prefer).

If you can't make Sunday, let Chris know so he can organise you medal and cert.

Any queries to 086 8175194.

Can you believe it? We are on the second last week of Couch to 5k.
It has been tougher than usual. We began with heavy rain and wind on three of our first four evenings while in recent days we have had soaring temperatures.

So, a big well done to those who have kept coming down. Your efforts will pay off. Everyone is going really well and is on track.

Next week is the final week.
We run on the Monday and Tuesday as normal.
Then on Thursday, July 23rd, we will do a trial 5k run.

This does count as completing the eight week programme.

On Sunday morning, July 26th, we will do the real McCoy at 10.00 am. Registration at Letterkenny Community Centre from 9.30 am.

We will do a little 5k loop around the town (if you prefer you can do it on the track, but it's nice to get away from the monotony of doing the oval route).

On the Sunday there is a €5 fee to cover your gold (coloured) medal, cert and refreshments.

Anyone who can't make Sunday but who does the Thursday can still get a medal and cert, but not until after the Sunday. Details can me made for collection.

Keep going. Almost there.

Can you believe it? We are onto week five of Couch to 5k.
Yes, we are past half way and everyone is going really well.
So, come on down this evening. We start, as usual, at 6.30 pm.
Conditions are great for getting outside, and getting a bit of exercise.

Interesting advice.
https://www.facebook.com/share/1LMUAuGCZy/

A lot of beginners treat 30 minutes nonstop like the entry fee to being a real runner.

If they can’t do it, they think they’re failing.

They can run 2 minutes, walk 2 minutes, repeat for 25 minutes, finish sweaty and proud… then somehow ruin the whole thing because they had to walk.

That’s a brutal way to start.

Running 30 minutes nonstop is a great milestone, but it is not where everyone begins. For some runners, it takes weeks. For others, months. And honestly, there’s nothing magical about forcing it before your body is ready.

The goal is not to remove walk breaks as fast as possible.

The goal is to build enough control that you don’t need them as often.

Big difference.

If your breathing gets wild, walk. If your form falls apart, walk. If your legs feel wrecked, back off. That does not delete the workout.

It means you’re learning how to manage effort instead of letting ego drive the whole thing into a ditch.

A smart run/walk session beats a miserable nonstop run that makes you dread the next one.

So stop treating 30 minutes nonstop like a pass/fail exam.

Build toward it. Earn it slowly. Repeat weeks. Keep the pace lazy. Let your body adapt.

You’re not behind because you still walk.

You’re building.

Can you run 30 minutes nonstop yet, or are you still building toward it?
