19/05/2026

Risk Assessments are a legal requirement. All companies and self-employed people are required to consider health and safety risks in the workplace, and companies with five or more employees are legally obliged to record the findings or risk assessments.

However, the importance of risk assessments goes beyond the fact that they are a legal requirement. They shouldn't occur simply to achieve compliance.

So why are risk assessments important?

Here are some of the reasons why companies need to assess hazards and risks and put effective control measures in place:
➡️ To protect people from potential harm and ill-health
➡️Risk Assessments can save lives
➡️Avoid the unnecessary costs of poor risk management
➡️Risk Assessments reduce company's legal liability
