đ¸ Menstrual Cramps in the Language of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), menstrual cramps are often seen as a message from the body.
Imagine a river flowing smoothly through a landscape. When the water moves freely, everything is nourished and balanced. But when the river is blocked by obstacles or chilled by the cold, the flow slows down and discomfort appears.
TCM views the movement of Qi (vital energy) and Blood in a similar way. When their flow becomes stagnantâoften due to stress, emotional tension, cold, or weakness in the body's energyâmenstrual pain may arise.
To help restore harmony, TCM encourages warmth, nourishment, gentle movement, and emotional balance.
Warm the lower abdomen and keep the feet and lower back cosy.
Enjoy warm, nourishing foods such as soups, ginger, and other cooked meals. (Note: if Heavy bleeding, then a chamomilla tea )
Move gently with walking, Qigong, stretching, or mindful breathing to encourage the smooth flow of Qi.
Create space for rest and emotional well-being, as TCM associates stress and frustration with disruptions in the Liver's role of maintaining the free flow of Qi.
