Back-to-school season brings new routines, busy schedules, and added sensory input, making rest more critical (and often harder to come by) than ever 🧠💫

Sleep issues don’t just mean a tough night. Research shows 53% of children with autism experience sleep challenges that affect the quality of life for the entire family.

When bedtime is a struggle, it ripples into school mornings, daytime regulation, work schedules, and family well-being. If your household is feeling the exhaustion of this seasonal shift, know that you are not alone.

Challenging behaviors can be one of the most difficult issues families face, but behavior is communication. Understanding what is driving a behavior—whether sensory, medical, communication-related, or emotional—can help uncover meaningful solutions and support better outcomes.

💬 Ask, "What is this person trying to communicate?" Behavior often serves a purpose or meets a need
🩺 Underlying medical issues such as pain, GI problems, anxiety, seizures, PANS/PANDAS, and nutrient deficiencies can contribute to aggression and meltdowns
🎧 Sensory overload, communication challenges, and unexpected changes can trigger challenging behaviors
🛠️ Proactive supports like visual schedules, social stories, communication tools, and calming spaces can help prevent escalation
❤️ Remember: A person with autism is not giving you a hard time—they are having a hard time and need support
