Did you watch Crisis in the Classroom last night by Eric Roberts Virgin Media Ireland

Children being taught in store cupboards. Regulating in stairwells and old bathrooms. Learning around buckets catching a leaking roof. One mother applied to 19 schools for her son and still has no place. A nine-year-old waited six months for a wheelchair after surgery.

The hardest part? None of it surprised the teachers, SNAs and parents we talk to every week.

This isn’t on them. Teachers are adapting lessons in rooms that don’t fit. SNAs are showing up every September without knowing if their job will be there next year. Parents are fighting for places that should already exist. Goodwill is holding this system together, and goodwill isn’t a plan.

The Department of Education needs to step up:
🔹 Plan school places before children need them
🔹 Fund proper spaces, because no child should have to regulate in a toilet
🔹 Give SNAs job security, recognition and training
🔹 Resource mainstream classrooms so every teacher can support every child

If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s on Virgin Media Play.

Share this with a parent or teacher who needs to hear they’re not the problem. Tag a teacher or SNA who’s holding it all together. And tell us in the comments: what are you seeing in your school? 💛

Real world support for real world kids.

This is a great illustration of what children and families face when schools simply don’t understand EBSA (emotionally based school avoidance). It is damaging to the children and their families who are simply being told to just “get them in the door”.

Hi everyone, I'm Megan, the founder of Busy Brainss here in Ireland.
I'm researching how children aged 3–12 cope with big feelings: the meltdowns, the shutdowns, and the moments when they just can't find the words. I want to hear from real parents about what actually happens at home, what you've tried, and what does and doesn't help.
The survey takes about 7 minutes. It's anonymous unless you choose to leave your details, and there's no sales pitch.
At the end you can also volunteer for a relaxed 20-minute chat (phone, video or in person) if you'd like to share more.

Every answer genuinely helps. Thank you so much, and please feel free to share with other parents who might like to take part. đź’›

Keeping yourself regulated is just as important as regulating your smallies!!
