When anxiety becomes overwhelming, the goal is often not to “stop” it immediately, but to help your nervous system feel safer and more regulated.

A few grounding techniques our therapists often recommend include:
• Holding something cold or splashing cold water on your face
• Naming 5 things you can see around you
• Slowly orienting yourself to your environment and surroundings

Simple strategies can sometimes help interrupt the cycle enough to create a little more space.

For many people, therapy begins with finally having space to talk openly.

Not because everything is falling apart, but because carrying things alone for a long time can become exhausting.

Counselling offers a supportive, non-judgmental space to:
• Process difficult experiences
• Explore emotions more openly
• Understand recurring patterns
• Feel heard without pressure or expectation

Sometimes the first step is simply saying things out loud for the first time.

National Centre for Assessment and Integrative Therapy provide mental health care, psychological assessments and nutritional services.

Many people assume therapy is only for moments of crisis.

In reality, a lot of people start therapy because:
• They feel emotionally exhausted
• They’ve been stuck in the same patterns for a long time
• Things feel harder than they used to
• They want to understand themselves more clearly

Early support can help prevent things from building over time.

Therapy isn’t always about “fixing” something severe, sometimes it’s simply about creating space to slow down, reflect, and understand what’s going on beneath the surface.

May is National Adolescent Health Month, a dedicated time to support young people as they navigate the unique challenges of the teenage years.

Adolescents often grapple with intense academic pressure, social anxiety, body image concerns, and the emotional complexities of developing their own identity.

At NCAIT, our specialised adolescent therapy provides a confidential and supportive space for teens to process these struggles and build lifelong coping skills.

We empower young people to take charge of their mental well-being through evidence-based care that respects their autonomy and unique perspectives.

Accessing support can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re not sure where to start.

At NCAIT, we’re passionate about building strong connections within the local community through workshops, partnerships, and collaborative support.

Our goal is not just to provide services, but to help create more accessible, connected pathways to care for children, adults, and families across the area.

We’re proud to continue growing those relationships locally.

National Centre for Assessment and Integrative Therapy provide mental health care, psychological assessments and nutritional services.

To help athletes stay composed and focused under pressure, here are three pre-game / competition mindfulness tips:

The 4-4-8 Breathing Technique: Inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4, and exhale slowly for 8. This practice activates the parasympathetic nervous system to lower pre-game jitters and physical tension.

Performance Visualisation: Spend 5 minutes closing your eyes and vividly imagining successful plays. Visualising positive outcomes strengthens neural pathways and boosts confidence before the whistle blows.

Win the Moment - Grounding: When anxiety spikes, focus on three things you can feel (the grip of the ball, the turf under your feet, the breeze). Staying present in the moment prevents the mind from drifting toward the fear of losing.

May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, and we’re highlighting the powerful connection between physical activity and psychological well-being.

Athletes of all ages often face hidden struggles like performance anxiety, burnout, and the mental toll of injury recovery that can hinder their progress.

Proper fuelling is equally vital, as many struggle with nutritional deficiencies, poor energy timing, or disordered eating patterns that impact both health and stamina.

At NCAIT, our sports therapy and specialised nutrition services provide a multidisciplinary approach to help you perform at your peak and maintain mental resilience.

Unlock your full athletic potential and support your recovery by exploring our expert-led services at ncait.ie or email [email protected] to speak to our sports psychologist or nutritionist.

Stress is often thought of as something purely mental.
But a lot of the time, it shows up physically first.

This can look like:
• Digestive discomfort
• Appetite changes
• Energy dips or crashes
• Brain fog or poor concentration

This is because the systems involved in stress regulation are closely connected to digestion, energy production, and nervous system function.

At NCAIT, our nutritional therapy support looks at both mind and body together.

We support children, adolescents, and adults, including individuals with ASD and ADHD, where sensory needs, eating patterns, energy, and regulation can all play a role.

Looking at the full picture often leads to more meaningful and sustainable support.
