I must admit, this made my day when I read it. šŸ™

Back pain that's affecting your work and daily life is something I see every single week in clinic. It's frustrating, it's exhausting, and a lot of people put up with it far longer than they should.

What this patient described — a thorough assessment, understanding the cause, a structured plan — that's exactly how I approach every single person who walks through my door.

It means I can tailor the treatment and rehab exercise exactly to what they need.

If your back has been at you and you're not sure where to turn, I'd love to help.

šŸ“ I see patients in clinic in the Midlands everyday— booking details in bio

šŸ’» Or if you not in a lot of pain and something to help relieve aches and stiffness check out my Daily Back Reset online programme — also in bio

Don't put up with it any longer than you have to.

Is your back stiff every morning?
It's probably not your mattress.

Here are the 3 real reasons I see in the clinic every week — and what to do about it.

1ļøāƒ£ Your body has been still for hours and needs time to warm upĀ

2ļøāƒ£ Your excessively breathing at night, more than likely through your mouth which can lead to excessive tension around certain areas in your back

3ļøāƒ£ Most people have no routine to ease it before the day starts

The fix doesn't have to be complicated. 10 - 15 minutes in the morning is enough.

I created the Daily Back Reset for exactly this — 7 short daily routines, no equipment, done in less than 15 minutes.

come across so many people whose strategy to prevent back pain is to avoid doing the movements that potentially might set off their back pain.

I can understand this because back pain can be very painful and limiting so not wanting to aggravate it seems logical.

However, while that might make sense in the short term, it doesn’t help out in the long term.Ā

Especially when the movements involve bending, crouching, reaching….. movements that you need to be able to do for so many everyday tasks.Ā

My job is to help people get back to doing the things they need to do with confidence.Ā

In order to do this, they need to show their nervous system that it is safe for them to do these things.Ā

Getting joints moving, building stability and strength in muscles is definitely part of it, but then exposing them to the movements in a gradual and safe way is a huge part that is often missed.Ā

If you are fed up with having back pain dictate what you can’t and can't do and want to do something to change then get in touch.Ā

Plantar Faciitis šŸ˜–

Another tricky running injury that can catch runners out.

Why?Ā

Because the pain can often ease once you get warmed up, and you can think, ā€˜I’m fine, I’ll keep going and do an extra few k,Ā

Or I’ll run a little faster than I had planned’

However like shin splints and achilles tendon issues, it’s the after effects that can be the killer

And that extra few k you did could result in an extra few weeks not being able to run.Ā

So if you are considering going for a run be honest and ask yourselfĀ šŸ‘‡

āž”ļøIs the pain mild? (1–2/10)

āž”ļøIs the pain not getting worse during my run?

āž”ļøIs the pain worse the next morning?

If the answer to these is no and you are actively rehabbing then you can continue to run, although realistically you will more than likely have to reduce your volume.

If you are unsure the best advice is to get it checked out by a professional.

If you need help with any running injuries then get in touch.

Delighted to be able to help out another person in need - this time someone who was having a lot of back pain.

Back pain is something that used to freak me out when I first started out as a physio.

I can still clearly remember the panic I had when I was on placement as a student physio and had to see someone who had shown a mild disc tear on an MRI.

But over the last 10 years of seeing people with all sorts of back complaints I have come to realise that back pain is rarely serious

And while it can be very painful and greatly restrictive at the time, with the right approach, guidance and exercise it will calm down and you can get back to living an active and enjoyable life.

If you are struggling with back pain and need some help, then get in touch.

Runners - If you are looking to hit PB’s this year, and don’t want an injury to ruin months of hard work training…..

Then my advice is to not ignore pains and niggles, even if they do disappear after a few kms.

A running injury screening session is designed to catch potential injuries before they catch up with you.

I assess your mobility and strength in key areas that are needed in order to run efficiently and reduce the risk of injury.

That is the first third of the session.

The remaining consist of a sports massage to any muscles that feel tight or achy in order to help you to continue running pain free.

Let me tell you how I used an iceberg to help Paula finally overcome her back pain for good.

And this after 2 years of trying a mix of different things that only gave short term relief.Ā

When Paula came to see me for her first session, I listened to her story of how her pain came about and even before assessing her movements, I had a good idea of what was happening.Ā

So I drew an iceberg and began to explain that the painful area, which was her low back, wasn’t her problem area.Ā

And she had spent the last two areas focusing on addressing the tip of the iceberg and not the main bulk of it underneath.

The main problem area for Paula happened to be a mixture of a weakness in her right leg that stemmed from a calf injury,Ā

Poor advice that she had received over the past 2 years which had to her been overly protective of her back and afraid to move,Ā

And this led to poor daily movement habits which were causing her back to get overloaded.Ā Ā

And while she had gotten some relief from addressing the 20% of the iceberg, which was her low back, her pain kept coming back because she hadn’t addressed the 80%, which was the rest of things I mentioned above.

Once we set about addressing the 80%, her back pain went away and she was able to return to enjoying exercise again, without her back pain returning.Ā Ā

If you are in a similar situation and you need help getting lasting back pain then get in touch.Ā

The best option is to book an initial assessment.

You can do this at my booking link in my bio or by sending me a DM.Ā

If ice, rest and waiting for the pain to go away is your solution to a throbbing knee after running then let me tell you…..

That I have done this before in order to keep running and it will only ever be a SHORT TERM fix and your knee pain WILL return.

Fortunately I learned from my own mistake and over the last 10 years as a physio helping tonnes or runners I now have a much better approach for runners over the age of 30.

However, if you want more than just the information in these few images and want to be able to enjoy your running pain and injury free,

Then you will like the sound of my new online program specifically for runners over the age of 30 who want to hit their running goals without pain and injury getting in the way.

I’ll have more details on the program at the end of the week so keep an eye out.
