🌟 I was delighted to recently attend the Monaghan Older People’s Council AGM and the launch of Monaghan Social Inclusion Week.

Both events highlighted the importance of connection, participation and ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to be involved in community life πŸ’―

The Older People’s Council plays a vital role in giving older people a voice, while Social Inclusion Week celebrates the many efforts being made across Monaghan to create a more welcoming and inclusive county for all πŸ’―

It was wonderful to see so many people and organisations coming together to support these important initiatives and to continue building stronger, more connected communities πŸ’―

🌟 It was a pleasure this morning to visit the Embroidery Programme delivered by Glaslough Development Association, funded through the Healthy Monaghan Age Friendly Grant Programme.

I was delighted to see this fantastic initiative in action and to meet participants enjoying the opportunity to develop new skills, explore their creativity, and connect with others in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Projects like this play an important role in supporting active ageing, wellbeing, and social connection within our communities. A huge thank you to Glaslough Development Association and everyone involved for making the programme such a success.

πŸ‘ Well done to all the participants for their wonderful work and enthusiasm throughout the project.

The first Healthy Ireland Local Government Newsletter is now available to download.

We are delighted to announce the launch of the inaugural Autumn/Winter edition of the Healthy Ireland Local Government (HILG) Newsletter, the first of two editions to be published each year.

This edition is an opportunity to reflect on the 2025/26 year: the progress made across our programmes, the achievements celebrated across the network, and the developments that continue to strengthen the role of local government in improving health and wellbeing in communities across Ireland.

It also marks a milestone moment, with a reflection from our outgoing National Lead, Vinne O’Shea, on four years of progress, including:

βœ”οΈ The Healthy Cities & Counties Programme and SlΓ‘intecare Healthy Communities Programme embedded within local government, with strong governance, national frameworks and a permanent Administrative Officer workforce providing long-term leadership and capacity
βœ”οΈ Ireland's strengthened position within the WHO European Healthy Cities Network, including our largest-ever Irish delegation at the 2026 WHO Annual Business Meeting and the continued accreditation of Irish Healthy Cities and Counties
βœ”οΈ Locally led, place-based approaches that reduce health inequalities, build community capacity and respond to local priorities

In this issue, you can explore and read more on:

β†’ Highlights of Healthy Ireland Local Government Activity 2025/26
β†’ Healthy Cities & Counties Programme in Focus
β†’ WHO European Healthy Cities Network
β†’ SlΓ‘intecare Healthy Communities Programme within Local Government

Thank you to every Healthy City & County Coordinator, Local Development Officer, local authority colleague and partner organisation for your unwavering commitment to advancing community wellbeing. Your dedication has laid strong foundations for the future.
