After yet another incredibly intense yet extremely fulfilling academic year, Eileen and I are ready to take a little break and fill our cups back up. I had hoped to finish a couple of weeks ago but alas there was extra work that needed to be done so I put my head down and got to it!! And now, I am finally ready to press pause.

Before I do that Eileen and I want to share our gratitude for all of the amazing successes and phenomenal opportunities this academic year brought us and CTC. We are so grateful for the dedication, hard work and support of our CTC students and staff alike. We are so grateful for all those who have joined us on CTC courses this year and the support we continue to receive from so many people. Thank you to each and every person who has shown support in any way to us and CTC this year. I am also forever grateful for the constant support and holding Eileen and all my family gave me, as I worked what at times felt, and indeed many times was, round the clock this academic year.

Eileen started CTC many years ago as she was determined to equip others with the knowledge, understanding and skills to provide developmentally appropriate psychotherapy and play therapy to children, teenagers and their significant adults. Her passion, drive and dedication have been far reaching, the impact her work has had in Ireland and internationally truly is immense. It is a deep honour for me to continue the work she began so many years ago and to do this with the most amazing staff team.

I am so proud of all of our CTC students, our CTC staff, and all that CTC is. And I am proud of myself too. Yet again, I have poured my heart and soul into CTC this year, and now as academic year 25/26 has drawn to a close I am definitely ready to fill my cup back up with downtime and family time with my loves. I am so grateful for them and this time we will share together.

With deep gratitude, we say goodbye to academic year 2025/2026 and hello to summer fun with our loved ones. Thank you one and all.

Happy Sunny Saturday!! I am excited to let you know that we are currently processing applications for our September intake of our Level 6, 15 Credit Award, Certificate in Nature-Based Therapeutic Play. This is an innovative and exciting training for any professionals working with children and/or teenagers. Please see some details below.

🌳 Certificate in Nature-Based Therapeutic Play: Exploring the Therapeutic Powers of Nature-Based Play

🗓️ Course Dates: 5th September, 19th September, October 3rd, October 24th, November 7th, November 28th and December 19th.

💶 Course Fee: €700. €110 discount available for anyone who has previously completed CTC’s Therapeutic Play Skills Certificate

ℹ️ A blended-learning course comprising online sessions containing demonstration and theory of best practice, and experiential directed study tasks, leading to the QQI Level 6, 15 credit, Certificate in Nature-Based Therapeutic Play (PG25605).

🧭 This experiential course is designed to equip healthcare, social care, or education professionals with knowledge, confidence and skills to use nature-based therapeutic play in their current role and current practice with individuals, small nurture groups and families. This includes teachers, therapists, project workers, social workers, childcare workers and others whose professional life brings them into regular contact with children, adolescents, and/or adults, including those considered to be vulnerable and at risk/in crisis.

❓ It is suitable for professionals who wish to gain a recognised award in the area of therapeutic play with the emphasis on both indoor and outdoor nature-based play. The NBTP Course addresses many forms of nature-based play for use both outdoors and indoors, play to support emotion regulation, and a variety of models and frameworks to both conceptualise and aid in the planning of therapeutic play for both groups and individuals. It also addresses professional practice and scope of practice to ensure ethical implementation in various settings.

Magic indeed!!!! I cannot describe in words the magic that took place at CTC Limerick over the past four days. 20 new students joined us for the rollercoaster of a lifetime, and my days did we get off to a glorious start!! Play, laughter, connection, joy, stories, hugs, learning, and some colour coded files or two…😉 We fit in a lot in this first Training Block.

This journey into the field of creative psychotherapy and play therapy is not easy, there are many highs and lows and in between moments along the way. If it’s the right journey for you, all of them are worth it!! It’s safe to say we started the journey on a massive high this weekend.

Welcome aboard Year 1, Group 1 2026. We are so glad you are with us. Let’s go team CTC, we’ve got this 💪🥳🎉🪄🥰🫧

Emer and I are hosting a free live online MA information session on Wednesday, 8th July, at 5pm. This online session will provide participants with information on our MA Creative Psychotherapy & Play Therapy, so if you are thinking of applying for a place on our MA you may want to attend. We are currently accepting applications for our 2027 MA intakes, our 2026 intakes are full. We process applications in November of each year so if you are considering applying for our MA it is necessary to submit your application early. It is important to read our full MA information document before attending this online information session, you can access the information file on our website.

The information sessions is a live, interactive session, participants will need a private space and their camera on to engage in the session. The session will not be recorded or repeated this year. Do you believe in magic? I definitely do!!! I also believe in the power of connection and love, the power of play and relationships to heal and bring joy, and in the power of holding hope even in the face of adversity. Having spent four afternoons online with the one and only Dr. Eliana Gil, I can say for certain that she too holds these beliefs - and she definitely has good reason to!! The work Eliana so beautifully shared with us highlighted just how potent these powers are, and how incredibly talented she is! Eliana was so generous in her sharing, incredibly engaging, and totally humble. I felt so connected to Eliana, even though she was so far away! I am so grateful for the experience we just shared and excited to think about possibilities for furthering our connection!! Thank you Eliana for sharing yourself so beautifully with us. Sending massive happy birthday wishes to this absolutely fabulous lady, Heidi Kaduson!!! Heidi definitely puts the PLAY in PLAY Therapy, in fact wherever she goes she brings the play. Not only is Heidi one of the most inspirational and playful Play Therapists I have ever met, she is also one of the kindest, warmhearted, and loving people I have the pleasure of having in my life. We had a wonderful first session, live online, with Dr.Eliana Gil today. I have admired and looked up to Eliana since I first read some of her writings when I was initially training as a Play Therapist myself. I have always been drawn to Eliana’s work, I hold deep respect for her and massive gratitude for the impact she has had on me in my work as a therapist and a trainer in this field. I have always connected with Eliana’s genuineness, her compassion, and her humanistic way of being. Having her online with us today reminded me of why I respect and admire her so much. Thank you, Eliana. You are a rare gem.

I lit a candle to remember and honour the late great Dr. Garry Landreth throughout today’s session too - another legend in our field who has had a significant impact on me, my work, and of course the entire field of Play Therapy. Garry’s work and legacy live on. Thank you Garry.

I always remain so grateful for the work of the pioneers in our field and also grateful that we get the opportunities to learn from them and continue the great work they began many years ago. What a privilege and an honour it is. Thank you to all who joined us for this very special training opportunity today. I look forward to seeing you all again tomorrow.

My heart is happy and my bucket is definitely full after a phenomenal week of playing, laughing, learning, and connecting with play therapy friends and colleagues from around the world. It was an incredible experience, made all the more special by having my Mam, Emer, Maggie and Majella there to share it with too. The Irish were well represented!! Thank you to all of the amazing Play Therapists from around the world who made the week so enriching and fun. The therapeutic powers of play were out in force, they work for us adults too! My whole self is happy💖
