🦻 Did you know today is World Hearing Day? 🦻

We have featured in The Irish Times' article which discusses the nation's hearing loss in greater detail.

Martyn, one of our Dispensing Audiologists, noted that people are being diagnosed at an earlier age with some degree of hearing loss and suggests that this could be a result of increased exposure to damaging levels of noise. This may be self-induced and can come from attending too many loud concerts or over-use of personal listening devices such as headphones.

🦻😷 Problems with Facemasks and Hearing Aids 😷🦻

Unfortunately for hearing aid users, wearing a facemask has introduced a whole (previously) unforeseen set of problems. In particular with the common over-the-ear type of facemask. We have had a number of reports of hearing aids being lost when removing a facemask and this situation applies in particular to the popular “on the ear” (OTE’s) and “behind the ear” (BTE’s) style of instruments.

At The Hearing Consultancy, we supply and fit a range of ‘in the ear’ styles of hearing aids. These types of devices are a ‘one piece’ and either fit completely in-the-ear canal, typically called a CIC (completely in the canal) or ITE (in the ear). CIC and ITE fittings have the distinct advantage of leaving the outer ear completely free and therefore the top of the ear is totally unrestricted for the wearing of facemasks and/or spectacles.

We offer a variety of in-the-ear devices including the popular Signia Silk, one of the smallest hearing devices on the market. It fits snugly within the ear canal and is almost invisible to the naked eye.

On The Ear Hearing Aids are a variation of the traditional hearing aid. These devices use either a thin tube to deliver the sound to a dome that sits in the ear canal or a custom tip moulded to a clients ear canal.
