This week is Self-Care Week - an annual national awareness week that focuses on embedding support for self-care. This year the theme is โMind & Bodyโ and of course, we're encouraging you to take care of our hearing!
We would urge you to:
๐ง Turn the volume down - Keep music, TV, and headphone volume below 60% of the maximum. Follow the โ60/60 ruleโ: no more than 60 minutes at 60% volume before giving your ears a break.
๐ Use hearing protection - Earplugs or noise-reducing headphones are essential at concerts, during DIY, or when using loud machinery. Even short bursts of loud noise can cause lasting damage.
๐ฉบ Get regular hearing checks - Treat hearing tests like eye or dental check-ups. Early detection of changes helps prevent further loss and keeps your brain sharp through better hearing.
๐งโโ๏ธ Manage overall health - Conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and smoking can affect blood flow to the inner ear. Staying active, eating well, and keeping these in check supports hearing health too.
๐งโโ๏ธ Give your ears a rest - After noisy environments, take quiet breaks to allow your ears to recover. Resting helps protect delicate inner ear cells from fatigue and damage.
We hope this helps!
