🌻 Sunflower Day Collection - Tomorrow 🌻

Tomorrow, Friday 12th June, volunteers will be collecting in support of St. Christopher’s Hospice. As part of the campaign, sunflower merchandise will be available in locations throughout Cavan and Monaghan.

You can also support the local collection taking place at The Inn, Newbliss, from 8am to 2pm.

Every contribution, no matter how small, helps St. Christopher’s Hospice continue its work supporting patients and families across our region.

🌻 Supporting St. Christopher’s Hospice 🌻

This week marks the 36th annual Hospice Sunflower Days campaign, with volunteers across Cavan and Monaghan raising vital funds for St. Christopher’s Hospice. Every euro raised locally stays locally and helps support hospice and palliative care services for families throughout our community.

You can support the campaign this Friday, 12th June, at The Inn, Newbliss (H18 C962), where volunteers will be collecting from 8am to 2pm. Sunflower merchandise will also be available from collectors throughout the area.

At Martin's Funeral Directors, we see first-hand the importance of hospice care and the comfort it provides to patients and their families.

We encourage everyone who can to support this worthwhile local cause. 🌻

The family of the late Brian Quigley, who died peacefully at home on 16th May 2026, would like to express their sincere gratitude to all their neighbours, friends and relatives who supported them during their recent bereavement and travelled to pay their respects at both the wake and Funeral Mass. We are especially grateful to everyone who sent Mass cards, online condolences, messages of sympathy and offered support in so many ways.

A heartfelt thank you to the compassionate and caring staff of Medical 2, Cavan General Hospital, for the excellent care provided to Brian during his stay. We would also like to sincerely thank Dr Deirdre Smyth Moran, Dr Pinheiro, Dr Wilhelm, the wonderful Palliative Care Nurses and all the Allied Healthcare Professionals who cared for Brian throughout his final weeks.

Thank you to everyone who brought food to the house and helped to serve refreshments. Your kindness and generosity were greatly appreciated. We would also like to thank Side Street Café, Cootehill, for the lovely meal served after the funeral.

A sincere thank you to Fabiola and Martin's Funeral Directors for their guidance, support and professionalism throughout. We are also grateful to Fr. Corrigan for celebrating such a beautiful Funeral Mass and to the church choir for the lovely music which added so much to the ceremony.

Thanks also to all who helped with parking, to Currin GAA and Eircom for their guard of honour, and to Oliver and Paul McCaul for preparing Brian's final resting place with such care. A special word of thanks to Brian's lifelong friends who visited and supported him throughout his life, and particularly during his final weeks.

The death has occurred of Geraldine Trant (née Lynch), Gortnana, Scotshouse, Co. Monaghan and formerly of Moygalla, Sixmilebridge, Co. Clare, 26th May 2026. Geraldine passed away peacefully after a long illness.

Predeceased by her infant daughter Ciara, parents Michael and Molly, and brother Seán.

Geraldine will be dearly missed and remembered with love by her loving husband Stephen, daughters Calla (André), Stephanie (Mark), Paula (Seán), son Colm (Ashley), and her adored grandchildren William, Eoin, Molly, Donal, Eva and Méabh.

Deeply regretted by her sisters Margaret, Mary, Breda, Carmel and Ber, brothers Michael, Seamus and Flan, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and friends.

May She Rest In Peace.

Geraldine will repose at Martin's Family Rooms, Newbliss (H18 C962), on Wednesday, May 27th, from 4pm to 8pm.

A cremation service will take place in Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan (H12 RF78) on Thursday, May 28th, at 3pm.

The family of the late Bernadette Tachney (née Cleary), who died on 20th April 2026 at home surrounded by her loving family, wish to express their heartfelt gratitude to all neighbours, friends and acquaintances who travelled from near and far to pay their respects at both the wake and Funeral Mass.

To all who sent messages, Mass cards and online condolences, we are truly grateful.

We would like to sincerely thank all her carers, Day Centre staff, Sitting In Services, Public Health Nurses, Dr. Clarke and staff, Dr. Wilhelm and the Palliative Care Nurses for the great care and attention they provided during Bernie’s illness. Your kindness will always be fondly remembered.

Thank you to all who brought food and helped serve refreshments to the many callers.

A sincere thank you to Fabiola and Martin’s Undertakers for their guidance and professionalism throughout.

Thank you to Fr. G. Dolan for the beautiful Funeral Mass.

The wife and family of the late Gerry Courtney, who died peacefully on 24th April, wish to express their heartfelt thanks to all their relatives, neighbours and friends for the kindness, support and compassion shown during their recent and sad loss.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who travelled from near and far to attend the wake and funeral. Your presence, prayers and support brought great comfort to us and helped us celebrate the wonderful life Gerry lived. We sincerely thank all those who called to the house, sent Mass cards, online condolences and messages of sympathy, and offered help in any way.

A special word of thanks to Fr. Chester for the beautiful funeral service, to Karen McElroy for the lovely music and singing, and to the grave diggers who prepared Gerry’s final resting place with such care and dignity.

The death has occurred of Brian Quigley, Drumavale, Scotshouse, Co. Monaghan, Saturday 16th May, 2026, at home.


Predeceased by his parents Mick and Mary and his brothers Aidan and Liam.

Deeply regretted by his brother Sean (Bernie) and his niece Deirdre. Brian will be sadly missed and remembered with love by his brother, sisters-in-law Margaret, Gay and Bernie, nephews Donal, Daragh, Michael and Niall, nieces Deirdre, Grainne, Fionnuala and Joanne, his God-child Cara, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, extended family, neighbours, many friends and by all who knew and loved Brian.


May Brian Rest in Peace.


Brian will be resting at the residence of his niece Fionnuala (Kieran Kierans), Drumavale, Scotshouse (H23 RR68), on Monday, 18th May from 4pm to 9pm. (House private to family and close friends at all other times please, including Tuesday morning). Removal on Tuesday morning, 19th May, at approx 10.30am to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Scotshouse, arriving for 11am Funeral Mass, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.


Brian's funeral cortège to the church will travel via the football field and the community Centre.


Please note there will be a shuttle bus in operation, due to restricted parking at the house. Parking will be available in Scotshouse Village, with a one way system in place entering via the Redhills Rd.


Family flowers only please. Donations, if desired, in lieu of flowers, to Cavan/Monaghan Palliative care, c/o Martin's Funeral Directors, Newbliss, via donation box at the house or through any family member.

The family of Jimmy Reilly would like to thank everyone who sympathised with us at the time of Jimmys passing. Each person who sent Mass cards, called to the house, and helped out in anyway is greatly appreciated and helped us to celebrate the great man Jimmy was.

A special thank you also to Palliative Care Cavan Monaghan and to Martins Funeral Directors for their kindness, compassion and professionalism in caring for Jimmy.

The husband and family of the late Ann Cassidy, who died on the 12th April 2026, wish to thank all our relatives, neighbours and friends who provided such great support during our recent and sad loss. We are deeply grateful to all those who travelled near and far to be with us for the wake and funeral. Your presence was much appreciated. Thank you to all those who sent Mass cards, sympathy cards, messages, online condolences and flowers, and to all those who brought and sent food and refreshments to the house.

To Fr. Dolan and Fr. Corrigan who delivered a beautiful service, our deepest gratitude. Thank you to Geraldine McCaffery for her beautiful music and singing. A sincere thank you to Fabiola and all at Martin’s Funeral Directors for their empathy, guidance and professionalism in organising the funeral and arranging shuttle buses to and from the house. Thank you to the drivers and stewards. To the grave diggers who prepared Ann’s final place of rest, thank you.

Finally, we wish to express our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Richard O’Dwyer of Cavan/Mater Hospital for his compassion, care and kindness throughout our short journey. To Dr. Val Gough, Dr. Pinheiro and all the staff at Cavan Hospital for their empathy and kindness while Ann was in their care. To all the staff in Avenue Pharmacy, Clones, thank you for everything.

A special word of thanks to Elizabeth for caring for Ann with such kindness and compassion in her final hours, and to Julie who arranged this care. It meant so much to us during a very difficult time.
