The long weekend is almost here! To ensure your furry family members stay happy and healthy, please take a quick moment to check their medication and food supplies today.

⌛ Prescription Deadline:
Please submit all repeat prescription and special dietary food orders by Wednesday, 29th July at 5:00 PM.
This gives our team and suppliers enough time to get everything ready for you before the weekend.

* Please note we are closed bank holiday Monday 3rd of August.

Summer time fun often includes a BBQ !

Protect your pets by keeping them away from hot grills, securing the rubbish, and enforcing a "no scrap" rule.

Key hazards include cooked bones, corn cobs, onions, and skewers, which can cause severe internal blockages or toxicity.

Kebab skewers, foil wrappers, and wooden toothpicks are dangerous choking and puncturing hazards if swallowed.

Politely ask guests and children not to sneak table scraps to your pet. Foods containing onions, garlic, grapes, raisins, xylitol (artificial sweetener), and alcohol are highly toxic to dogs and cats.

Our pets might not be able to safely enjoy snacks off the barbecue, so why not prepare a tasty treat of their own to enjoy? This could be a thirst-quenching pet-safe snack or a puzzle feeder filled with kibble to keep them entertained.

Is your pet drinking enough during this heatwave ?

Dehydration can quickly occur especially when temperatures are so high!

Tips to encourage your pet to drink more;

-ensure you provide access to fresh drinking water
-can freeze fruit or add ice cubes to water bowl
-could use some wet pet food to add moisture to diet during the heatwave
-provide multiple bowls of fresh drinking water

Warning Signs of Dehydration;
-Loss of skin elasticity: Pull the skin between the shoulder blades; if it stays tented or returns slowly, they need fluids.
-Dry, tacky mouth: Gums feel sticky instead of wet and slippery.
-Sunken, dull eyes: Eyes look deep-set and lack shine.Lethargy and weakness:
-Animals become sluggish, sleepy, or unresponsive
-Loss of appetite: Water depletion slows down the entire digestive system.
-Excessive panting: Heavy panting continues even after minimal physical exertion.

🐾 Beat the Heat: Is Your Pet Safe? 🐾

☀️ With temperatures rising, heatstroke is a fast-acting emergency that can threaten your pet's life in minutes. Because our furry friends can’t sweat like us, they rely on panting to cool down—which isn’t always enough.

Keep this checklist handy to spot the warning signs early! ⤵️

🚨 EARLY WARNING SIGNS:

Heavy, frantic panting

Thick, sticky drooling

Bright red gums or tongue

Anxious pacing or searching for shade

⚠️ SEVERE SIGNS (ACT IMMEDIATELY):

Vomiting or diarrhoea

Weakness, stumbling, or wobbling

Glassy eyes or confusion

Collapse or seizures

👉 CRITICAL FIRST AID: "WET, THEN VET"
If you suspect heatstroke, do not wait. Start cooling them instantly before rushing to our clinic:

Move them to a shaded, air-conditioned spot.

Pour cool (not ice-cold) water over their body.

Avoid wrapping them in wet towels—this traps heat! Use a fan instead.

Offer small sips of water, but never force them to drink.

Flat-faced breeds (like Pugs, Frenchies, and Persian cats), senior pets, and overweight animals are at a much higher risk!

Teddy was in today for his health check with Vet Marcel before getting his booster vaccine and preventive treatment 🐾🐾

Isn't he too cute 😍

Puppy vaccines are essential.
It helps the immune system to fight off highly contagious often fatal diseases like parvovirus, distemper and leptospirosis.

Puppy require one dose at 6-8 weeks of age and a booster in 3-4 weeks after the 1st dose.
Dogs require vaccines every year after that to maintain immunity throughout life.

Flea and worm prevention is critical for puppies because their developing immune systems make them highly vulnerable to severe anemia , stunted growth and life threatening conditions like lungworm.
Parasites can also transmit dangerous infections and some worms are transmissble to us Humans.
