As both a teacher and a parent, one thing I have learned is that there is no such thing as one approach that works for every autistic child, teenager or adult.

⭐ Every person is unique.
⭐ Every sensory profile is unique.
⭐ Every way of communicating is unique.

That is one of the reasons I value Story Massage so much.

It is not about changing who someone is. It is about creating opportunities for connection, communication and calm in a way that respects the individual.

Story Massage can be adapted using favourite books, songs, nursery rhymes, poems and social stories. There is no pressure to talk, no pressure to sit still and no expectation that everyone will respond in the same way.

I love this feedback because it highlights something that many practitioners tell me after completing the course.

Most people initially come to Story Massage to learn the ten simple strokes. What often surprises them is learning about the science behind the programme and discovering just how adaptable it can be.

Happy Father's Day to all the Dads and father figures creating stories, memories and connection every day.

One of the lovely things about Story Massage is that it can be enjoyed by everyone. Whether you are sharing a favourite bedtime story, a nursery rhyme, a Marvel character or simply taking a few minutes together, Story Massage creates opportunities for connection.

Those small moments of laughter, calm, conversation and togetherness often become the memories that stay with us.

One of the reasons it works so well across different environments is its flexibility. The same ten simple strokes can be used with favourite stories, songs, nursery rhymes, poems, books and social stories, making it easy to adapt for the people you support while keeping the foundations of consent, choice and respect at the heart of the programme.

No two practitioners use Story Massage in exactly the same way, and that is one of the things I love most about it.
