Be sun smart everyone 🌞
☀️ With temperatures rising sharply this week, it’s a timely reminder to stay on site and at home.
The overarching theme for May on the CIF’s Health, Safety & Wellbeing Calendar is skin cancer awareness and we’re encouraging members to follow the HSE’s SunSmart guidance to protect themselves and their teams.
Skin cancer is the most common cancer in Ireland, and outdoor workers are particularly at risk. Simple steps make a real difference:
☀️ Seek shade when possible, especially between 11:00am and 3:00pm
🧢 Cover up with long sleeves, hats and UV‑protective clothing
🕶️ Wear sunglasses with UV protection
🧴 Apply sunscreen (SPF 30+ for adults, 50+ for children) and reapply regularly
🔍 Check your skin and know the signs of change
Creating a safer industry means looking after the health we can’t see as well as the hazards we can. Let’s keep skin protection front of mind as the weather heats up.
