Super excited to announce that this October, the Cooke Crew are taking part in the "100 Miles in October workplace Challenge!" 👟👟 We have chosen to funraise for the Irish Hospice Foundation to help with the phenomenal work they do. Like most work places in Ireland, we have had experience of the wonderful care the hospice provides, both within our team members families and among patients who have been very dear to us.
As a team, we will endeavour to walk/run 100 miles across the month of October so that, when others need the support of the , they will be there for them too.

Who doesn't love a bit of Autumn sun! That glorious golden light, sent to gentle coax us into the longer darker evenings. But hands up who has experienced the glare this September phenomenon brings🙋🏻‍♀️. Due to our position on the globe, Autumn/ Winter sun is lower in the sky than summer sun. This means that it is closer to our eye line than summer sun and so causes more discomfort glare when driving. Polarised lenses in your sunglasses makes driving/ walking/ cycling/ running in these conditions so much easier. They virtually eliminate this type of glare while enhancing our perception of colour rather than dulling it. Back from the lab and looking SOOO fab we thought they deserved a place on the grid! Introducting the Lucky Charm 3 from ! We are just loving the side detail here🥰. Designers have cleverly created a gap in the acetate and inserted a small coloured metal bar to tone in with side and tip design. The result, an accent detail like no other! This pair has been glazed,with lenses featuring a Crizal Sapphire finish, and are off to their new home but we still have one more Lucky Charm in an alternate colourway! Introducing Darragh's approved rugby goggles🏉. It's a privilege to be able to help our amazing young sport stars excel and reach their potential on the field. Darragh's need to wear spectacles was not going to hold him back from getting stuck in! Instead, he has selected this fantastic approved goggle which comes with a cleverly designed insert that holds Darragh's lenses. If his prescription changes, we can change the lenses in the insert...think of it as a very smooth substitution 😁. So naturally, when Darragh came to collect this newest piece of sports kit, he was assisted by his very helpful and curious back room staff, Conor and Ceola. Seeing as they are all current Cooke Opticians VIP's it was only right everyone made the photograph. And if ever a photo said " Summer at Cooke Opticians " it's this one! Good luck in your next rugby match Darragh and thank you for trusting us with your eyecare.

80% of what we learn is presented visually so it's "clear" to see why an eye examination should be on the back to school " to do" list.
Surprisingly, if children have only ever known blurred or fuzzy vision, they don't always realise this isn't how everyone sees the world so they don't tell parents or teachers.

What to look out for: Squinting or frowning when reading or watching TV. Sitting close to the TV or holding books or objects close to their face. Clumsiness or poor hand eye coordination. Rubbing eyes excessively.

As your child grows and develops so do their eyes. So, while your child's vision may have been previously fine, like their shoe size, this can change!

Got concerns?
Book an eye examination. Our Optometrists will be happy to listen to your concerns and reassure you that even if your child does have an issue with their vision, early intervention and advice can lead to very positive outcomes.

What can parents do to help?A healthy lifestyle and diet can help eyes and vision develop well. Explore the great outdoors! 15 hours of outside time per week is recommended for developing eyes.Limiting time on electronic screens and devices.Encourage your child to hold books etc no closer than 30 cm from their face.
