☀️ Hot weather = thirsty kids!

Little ones lose water fast in the heat and often don't even realise they're thirsty.

Keep their bottles topped up, offer plenty of cool water and fruit, and watch for signs like dry lips, tiredness or headaches.

A hydrated child is a happy child. 💧

Holiday season is here (yay!) and many families are getting ready to set off on their holidays abroad.
So in our this month, we advise on what medication to bring on a family holiday and please, call in to one of our shops if you need advice around this.
This is a question we get asked a lot especially this time of year 😎☀️✈️.
One piece of advice is to put any medication you bring with you into your hand luggage to avoid the risk of loosing it. You don’t have to bring lots of medication but here are the main products we would advise you have with you.
✅ Paracetamol and Ibuprofen .
Bring in liquid or suppository form for the kids. Tablets for the adults .You never know when your little one will be feeling off especially with the all the traveling , heat and change in diet. So this is great for controlling any raised temperatures or pain .
✅Antihistamines:
These are great to have on standby for any allergies that might arise on the trip. It’s also good to have if any member of the family gets insect bites too. Antihistamine creams can help with the itch associated with bites and antiseptic creams help prevent the skin getting infected.
✅Medication for diarrhoea and vomiting:
Sometimes when travelling we can pick up bugs or eat something that causes stomach upset . So it’s no harm to have medication on stand by for this. The main thing for all members of the family if they have been vomiting or have diarrhoea is to keep hydrated especially young children . Rehydration salts like Diorylate can help with this. For the adults Imodium can help with the diarrhoea and Motilium can help with nausea and vomiting . Always seek medical advice if the diarrhoea and vomiting becomes very severe.
✅Prescribed medication :
This is probably the most important one to bring. If any member of the family is on regular medication it’s important to bring this with you because you may not be able to replace it.
Enjoy your Holidays😎☀️🍦

Closed Thursday 28th May for the Funeral Mass of Maurice O’Connell

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of my father Maurice O’Connell, “The Boss”.

Maurice worked diligently for over 50 years in the pharmacy and his hard work and dedication, along with my mother Bríd, made the business what it is today.

He enjoyed dealing with the people of Swinford and always spoke fondly of his days in the shop until the day he died.

I would personally like to thank all the staff in O’Connell’s Pharmacy for the kindness they showed to Dad and the help they gave my family over the past few years.

We will be closed on Thursday in both stores, Swinford and Westport, for his Funeral Mass.

Rest in peace, Dad.

Eoghan O’Connell
