Understanding how hair grows
Hair growth consists of three phases: anagen, catagen, and telogen.
⚪Anagen Phase - The Growth Stage
The anagen phase marks the active growth period of a hair follicle. During this phase, cells in the hair bulb divide, contributing to the elongation of the hair strand. The length of the anagen phase varies individually, with scalp hairs remaining in this growth stage for several years. The duration of this phase plays a crucial role in determining the length of your hair.
⚪Catagen Phase - The Transitional Stage
The catagen phase represents a transitional period where the hair follicle undergoes regression. This relatively short phase serves as a bridge between the active growth of anagen and the resting phase of telogen.
⚪Telogen Phase - The Resting Stage
The telogen stage represents the resting period within the hair growth cycle. In this phase, the hair follicle remains inactive, and the current hair naturally falls out, creating space for the emergence of new hair. Typically, about 10–15% of our hair is in the telogen phase concurrently. External factors such as stress, illness, or hormonal changes can influence the duration of this phase.
