Moon of the Spear

Am gaí i fodb feras feochtu.
I am a keen spear that pours forth battle.

Full Moon Ireland 🇮🇪 15:35 29th July
Moonrise: 21:40

In Irish Mythology the Sun God Lugh, for whom the upcoming festival of Lughnasadh is named, possessed one of the Four Treasures of the Tuatha Dé Danaan, the Lightning Spear known as the G*e Asaill, a magical spear that never missed its’ mark, a spear that dispells darkness.

“Out of Gorias was brought the Spear that Lugh had. No battle was ever won against it or him who held it in his hand.”

Happy Lunar Lughnasadh to all.

Tending Wells

There are many traditions associated with the time of Lughnasadh, one of which is tending to the holy wells.

Well Maidens & Water Priestesses, would decorate the wells with fresh flowers and walk sunwise around them to honour the life giving sacred waters, leaving offerings in thanks for gifts of favour and healing.

In later Christian times this ritual honouring of water became “Doing the Rounds” (turas), involving clockwise prayer walks, specific stations of the cross, and leaving tokens such as rags or coins in thanks for the first harvest.
We know of course now that coins pollute the water and non biodegradable materials hung on nearby tree branches do quite the opposite to what the petitioner intends. With growing awareness these harmful practices hopefully will die out.

Prior to the water rituals, the wells were spruced up and summer overgrowth cut back in preparation for the prayer gatherings.
Is there a well near you, or one that you have a love for that needs tending? Get your gardening gear out and immerse yourself in service to the sacred waters, asking permission first from the Guardians of Place.
You may be amazed at what messages from Spirit come through.

Thank you Pam and Monty for all your hard work today.
Before and After shots.
Lovely day ❤️
