It was 2021 when I first announced the start of my psychology degree at Dublin City University. It is now 2026, and I am proud to announce the completion of my bachelor’s degree in psychology, with an outstanding 70 grade for my final thesis and an overall 2.1 honours mark for the degree.
I am extremely proud of this achievement, especially as a mature student with other commitments and responsibilities. Even though there is still a long way to go to become a fully certified psychologist, I am gladly continuing this path, as this degree has confirmed my desire to pursue it despite its high level of challenge.
As noted in the 2021 post, I remain interested in human behaviour, human and community needs, health, and the biopsychosocial approach to help more people. Additionally, there is an enormous need for professionals in this field.
Nevertheless, this achievement would not have been possible without the help and support of many individuals. I want to express my sincere gratitude to my family, friends, and everyone who contributed towards the culmination of this degree.
First, to my two wonderful daughters, whose unconditional love, patience, and support fuelled my motivation and resilience.
Second, to my lovely fellow students, who shared all the tribulations of completing this research and whose help was always assertive, insightful and valuable. Additionally, to all the Connected DCU Society and, of course, to the legend Patricia Cross, a fellow student whose support and encouragement were invaluable during these years at DCU.
Finally, to all my amazing tutors during these five years, especially Dr Alan McAuliffe, for his magnificent patience and encouraging teachings. I am also deeply grateful to my supervisor and teacher, Dr Aoife Quinn, whose enormous knowledge and constructive feedback were essential to the completion of my final research project.
