Sage Wellbeing Hi, I'm Carmel Hughes. I am a Mindset and Breathwork Practitioner, also Workplace Wellness training Course handouts and meditations are included .

Classes and workshops offer a unique combination of Mindfulness, Meditation, Neuroscience & positive Psychology. Drawing on teachings from the MBSR(Mindful Based Stress Reduction) and MBCT (Mindful Based Cognitive Therapy) programmes. I offer a practical approach to enable each individual to incorporate all skills and techniques into everyday living. Individual events can be tailored to suit the needs of each group or setting. The teachings of Mindfulness techniques and the physical changes that occur in the brain are explained through the inclusion of Neuroscience. The benefit of this learning allows the individual to understand how the mind works and responds in various situations. Understanding how small changes and awareness can alter and allow us to respond to events instead of reacting. Positive Psychology is the study of "happiness". It explains what makes happy people happy. Our thought patterns can be interrupted changing our cognitive response. During all classes there is encouraged interaction, activities, meditations, stories and always the opportunity to interact and learn for you own unique life. Mindfulness gives us the tools to be present in our lives, to become aware of our cognitive process and respond in a way that is the most beneficial for us in that moment.

Incredibly grateful to have made the journey from Ireland to Amsterdam for this next step in my Inner Energy journey.

Ivan is incredibly knowledgeable. With over 20 years of experience as a physiotherapist, he brings a deep understanding of the human body, not just from a physiological perspective, but also recognising the influence of our minds and thoughts on our physical movement and wellbeing.

As a qualified Qigong instructor, he introduced us to this ancient practice, exploring how we can support the body, mind and spirit through movement, breath, awareness and the flow of Qi, our vital energy.

Alongside two fantastic participants, TJ and Jeff, we shared an incredible day filled with learning, insights and moments that challenged us to look a little deeper.

And how did we finish? Qigong while standing on a bed of 9mm steel nails.

Why? To explore focus, clarity, energy flow, inner calm and our ability to remain present, even when we're outside our comfort zone.

Level Two of my training has opened up so much more than I could have imagined. From Qigong and longevity practices to myofascial release, meditation and nail boards, it's about understanding ourselves more deeply and learning how to work with our own energy, body and mind.

There is so much more I'll be sharing in the days and weeks ahead.

But today, I'm also taking a moment to acknowledge my own journey. The path I've travelled, the challenges I've overcome and the person I am today.

Sometimes we're so busy looking ahead to the next thing that we forget to pause and recognise how far we've come.

This weekend has reminded me of that.

I'm proud of the woman I am becoming, grateful for the experiences that have brought me here, and excited about what lies ahead.

This feels less like reaching an end point and more like the beginning of a whole new chapter, both in my own practice and in what I can share with others through Sage Wellbeing.

More to come...Im only beginning !

We can’t always control the pressure life brings, but we can explore how we respond to it.

Nail board practice invites us to meet discomfort, connect with our breath and become more aware of the thoughts, sensations and reactions that arise in the moment.

Through breathwork, mindfulness and intentional practice, we can begin to explore our relationship with stress, build self-awareness and discover new ways of responding to challenging situations.

It’s not about pushing through at all costs. It’s about finding your own balance, one breath at a time.

Curious to explore this for yourself? I offer group classes, workshops, events and tailored one-to-one sessions incorporating breathwork and mindfulness, alongside nail board experiences.

Get in touch to find out more or explore what might be right for you.

I'm heading to Amsterdam… and I'm not travelling alone. My nail boards are coming too.

I'm off to continue my training, exploring how nail board practice, breathwork and Qi Gong can work together.

Because it's not just about standing on nails. It's about awareness, breath, focus and exploring our relationship with the body and its energy.

This next level of training brings together new and existing practices, including the stimulation of acupressure points and the exploration of chi, or life force energy.

I'm excited to keep learning and to bring these experiences into the unique events I offer.

Curious about trying it for yourself?

Is your mind sticky?

Have you ever noticed how a frustration, an annoyance, or a difficult moment can stay with you long after it has passed?

Sometimes our minds replay the same thoughts over and over, and the more we revisit them, the more familiar and ingrained those patterns can become. This can leave us feeling stuck in unhelpful thinking patterns, something explored within CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy).

Mindfulness helps us develop a different relationship with our thoughts. It's not about stopping them, but learning to notice them, acknowledge the feelings they bring up, and gently bring our attention back to the present moment.

By becoming more aware of these patterns, we can begin to interrupt the cycle of repetitive thinking rather than allowing the same thoughts to occupy our minds hour after hour, day after day.

And if something needs our attention, we can choose to return to it consciously, rather than getting caught in the same loop without realising it.

Sometimes, the first step is simply noticing when your mind has become sticky.

Have you ever caught yourself replaying the same thought or situation? Let me know in the comments 👇

The soles of our feet contain numerous acupressure points.

Standing on a nail board stimulates these points and is associated with supporting the flow of energy through the body's meridian lines.

This practice also invites us to become more present, connect with our bodies and develop greater awareness of the mind-body connection.

My morning ritual.

Even first thing in the morning, our minds can be busy. Thoughts about the day ahead, things to do, and everything that might be on our minds.

For me, a little cacao, some heartfelt gratitude, journaling and a few moments of stillness help me slow down and reconnect with myself.

And then, time on the nail boards.

Standing on the nails brings my attention into the present moment. I focus on my breath, settle my mind and practise allowing my body to relax, even when faced with discomfort.

And there's a beautiful lesson in this.

The boards can be a mirror for life. We can't always change our circumstances or what's happening around us, but we can learn to change how we meet those moments.

How we breathe. How we respond. How we hold ourselves through the uncomfortable moments.

Sometimes, the greatest shift begins when we simply pause, breathe and come back to ourselves.

A little reminder that we don't always need to change everything around us. Sometimes, we just need to change how we meet it.

Mindfulness has a way of bringing us back to what really matters, the present moment.

This winter, I’m thinking of bringing back a series of online mindfulness classes with Sage Wellbeing, exploring practical ways to manage stress, quieten the overthinking mind, improve sleep, and bring more calm, awareness and compassion into everyday life.

4–5 weeks of learning, practical exercises, breathwork and guided meditation.

Imagine cosy winter evenings, the fire on, and a little time just for you.

I’m hoping to run these classes during November, but before I make any plans, I’d love to hear from you!

Would you prefer a midweek evening or a weekend morning?

Comment below or send me a message if you’re interested.

Some places stay with you long after you leave.

A long-awaited visit to Dzogchen Beara in Allihies, West Cork, a place that holds both a personal connection to my family history and a connection to my mindfulness journey.

Surrounded by the wild beauty of the Atlantic, I was reminded of the importance of stepping away from the noise, making space for stillness, and allowing ourselves to simply be.

Sometimes, the greatest gift we can give ourselves is the space to pause, reflect and feel grateful for all that is.

Feeling very grateful for this truly special place in an incredible part of the world.
