It is vital that as many "experts by experience" as possible add their voices to this survey so that it can be truly representative. Please do so, if you can.....

LAST CHANCE to tell us what it's like to be a carer in 2019!

Our State of Caring Survey closes on 24th May. It's the most comprehensive research into the experiences of carers in Northern Ireland and we'll use the results to campaign for better rights for carers

Please share as widely as possible and help us to capture this vital insight into the lives of carers here.

WLDAG are pleased to see the introduction and promotion of this measure which will, hopefully, help many people who feel lost and a real sense of dread when they or their family member have to access the often overwhelming world of hospital.

The Hospital Passport has been developed for people with a learning disability to complete (with or without help) and present to staff every time they have contact with a general hospital.

It gives staff important information on the person and how they prefer to communicate, their medical history and any spport they might need while in hospital. Staff can then make any reasonable adjustments in order to provide the best possible care for people with a learning disability.

Motivation personified.... So good to hear a voice that is speaking and acting for himself and for those people who cannot speak for themselves.

My Likes has increased a lot since the start of the year.

So for the new people on Facebook:

My name is Dermot Devlin and I am a 39 year old man from a small village called Greencastle in Ireland. Much like Greencastle, I am small myself. However, I am larger than life and endeavour to improve the lives around me, especially those with disabilities.

I am an advocate for disability rights and accessibility issues. I give those a voice to those who do not have one and speak out for what is right.

I give many talks across Ireland about what it is like to live with a disability, live with a rare disease and live life to the full. I want to show the work that having a disability shouldn't prevent you from living a life you want and there are ways around specific circumstances.

I want to remove the stigma of having a disability in society and we have just as much to offer the world as the next person. Some say more, as we have to work harder to be heard and seen.

If this sounds like a journey you want to follow, you want to join and you want to contribute to: join mywayaccess.com today.

This is a very worthwhile read on the experiences of those adjusting to SDS system. Although the report states that the survey base was small, the points that they do highlight will no doubt be common to many who are in receipt of this. We hope that SDS becomes more widely and easily available to those for whom it can be of help, and that sharing this report can help those who are considering doing so.
