🐾 A Very Special Visitor 🐶 brought plenty of smiles around Bishopscourt Nursing Home, Cork on Wednesday when we welcomed a very special four-legged visitor – Miller the Therapy Dog

Miller made his way around to meet our Residents, happily accepting lots of attention, cuddles and, of course, plenty of admiration along the way. 🥰🐾

As you can see from the lovely smile on our Resident Dora’s face – and the smiles of our other Residents – Miller was definitely a big hit

Visits like these bring such warmth and enjoyment to the day, creating lovely moments of connection, companionship and fun for our Residents.

A big thank you to Miller and his handler for coming to visit us – we hope it won’t be too long before we see that gorgeous face again ❤️

We are delighted to introduce Dina, the new Assistant Director of Nursing at Bishopscourt Nursing Home, Cork

Dina brings great enthusiasm to her new role and is looking forward to supporting our dedicated team as they continue to provide compassionate, person-centred care to all our residents.

Throwback Thursday at Bishopscourt Nursing Home, Cork

Today, we are taking a little look back at one of the creative activities our Residents enjoyed as part of Nursing Homes Week.

During their art class, our Residents painted a beautiful collection of colourful flowers, which were displayed on the walls to brighten and decorate our home for the celebrations. 💐

The finished creations looked wonderful and perfectly reflected the Nursing Homes Week theme, “Connected with Nature – Life in Full Bloom.”

Well done to all and to our Activities Coordinators for all the guidance and help to make Nursing Homes Week 2026 special and memorable for our Residents and Staff

💐 Life in Full Bloom at Bishopscourt Nursing Home as we come to the end of Nursing Homes Week 2026💐

Our Residents enjoyed a lovely flower-arranging activity. Working with an array of beautifully coloured and wonderfully scented flowers, they created some gorgeous arrangements to brighten up our home. 🌼

It was a relaxing and enjoyable activity that brought the colours and fragrances of nature indoors — perfectly reflecting this year’s Nursing Homes Week theme, “Connected with Nature – Life in Full Bloom.” - an initiative of Nursing Homes Ireland 💜

🌸 Connected with Nature at Bishopscourt Nursing Home, Cork 🌸

Our beautiful garden has been the perfect place for our Residents to relax and enjoy the recent good weather — fitting in wonderfully with this year’s Nursing Homes Week theme, “Connected with Nature – Life in Full Bloom.”

Our herbs are growing beautifully, filling the garden with their lovely scents, while the colourful flowers provide a feast for the eyes. With birds singing throughout the day, it is a peaceful and uplifting space where our Residents can enjoy the sights, sounds and fragrances of nature. 🌺🌱🐦

What a lovely way to connect with nature and appreciate the simple pleasures it brings.

🌸 How Have I Grown?

As part of Nursing Homes Week, our Bishopscourt Nursing Home, Cork Residents enjoyed a lovely reminiscing morning, chatting about their lives, experiences and all they have learned along the way.

We asked our Residents: “What advice would you give to young people today?”

Their answers were thoughtful, honest and sometimes wonderfully humorous! From being kind and looking after yourself, to being a good friend, listening to those who love you and, very importantly, watching the traffic — there are some real words of wisdom here.

🎈 Growing Through Movement at Bishopscourt Nursing Home, Cork

As part of our Nursing Homes Week celebrations, our physiotherapist, Cholan, got our Residents moving with a lively game of “Keep the Balloon Up!”

There was plenty of fun and laughter as everyone exercised without even realising it! Activities like this are wonderful for encouraging movement and coordination, while also supporting wellbeing and lifting the spirits. 💪😊

🌿 Nursing Homes Week Begins at Bishopscourt Nursing Home, Cork 🌿

Nursing Homes Week, taking place from 17th–23rd August 2026, is an annual celebration of nursing home residents, staff and the wonderful communities within nursing homes throughout Ireland. It is an initiative of Nursing Homes Ireland, and this year’s theme is “Connected with Nature.”

To begin our celebrations, our Residents enjoyed a morning of colouring and creativity, making a beautiful “Connected with Nature – Life in Full Bloom” display to hang in our sitting room. 🌼

As you can see, it also made the perfect backdrop for our musician, Denis Johnston, who treated us to a wonderful afternoon of music and entertainment

🐾❤️ A Visit from Irish Therapy Dog "Miller" to Bishopscourt Nursing Home, Cork. 🐶

As always, Miller brought plenty of smiles, cuddles and happiness to our Residents. There’s something very special about the joy a furry friend can bring 🥰🐾
