The Waterford Lions Club was deeply saddened by the recent passing of Patsy Sheridan. Patsy was a stalwart member of the Club for more than 50 years.
He was instrumental in starting the Waterford Lions Club Christmas Hamper Appeal almost 50 years ago. This became an annual event in the Lions Club calendar, and today it continues to provide festive hampers and food vouchers to over 1,000 families in Waterford and its surrounding areas each year.
Patsy was also renowned for creating the Strictly Déise Dancing fundraising event, which took place each May. This became a popular fixture for many people in the Waterford social calendar, and raised thousands each year for local charities in Waterford.
Patsy’s outstanding work and achievements were recognised by Lions International when he was awarded the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship. As the highest form of recognition from Lions International, the fellowship honours individuals who demonstrate exceptional humanitarian service and embody the core ideals of Lionism.
Despite all of his achievements, Patsy’s greatest pride and love was for his own family. Everyone in the Waterford Lions Club would like to extend our deepest condolences to his wife Bernie, his children Tina, Mary, and Derek, his extended family, and his wide circle of friends.
Patsy continued to advocate for the people of Waterford in his final weeks, determined that no family would go without food on the table this coming Christmas. He was an extraordinary man in many ways – and we are proud to say that he was a member of our Club, and we will miss him greatly.
