My latest family trees, still warm from the printer...
I've been working for the last couple of months with three mighty fine Traveller men at Pavee Point in Dublin on a great genealogy project . Everything came together beautifully yesterday with the unveiling of three large family trees at a wonderful community event at Finglas attended by the Lord Mayor of Dublin. I want to thank Michael Collins, Martin Reilly and Martin Collins for all their hard work, enthusiasm and dedication to this important cause. Their engagement with the older generation uncovered a goldmine of family lore and connections. Their gathering of almost two hundred photographs, some very evocative of a way of life now gone, really bring the family trees to life. Thanks also for making a 'countryman' like myself feel so welcome. (smiley face)
The project was co-sponsored by Dublin City Council Culture Company and The National Library of Ireland - who have requested that copies of the three family trees are given a permanent home at the NLI. (another smiley face...)
Michael Collins's family tree in the photo has 270 names, 84 photos, spans eight generations and rocking up at almost eight feet long is a new personal best for me!
