The Clannad Care team recently came together with our colleagues across the Hartley People Group to celebrate achieving ISO 14001 certification, recognising our shared commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable business practices.

Achievements like this are built not only through organisation-wide initiatives, but also through the small everyday actions taken by our team, including Recruitment Coordinator Lauren's recycling initiative in support of The Annabelle Foundation. Well done to everyone involved!

Stories like this remind us why dementia awareness and support are so important.

This September, our team will proudly take part in the Memory Walk in solidarity with those living with dementia, and those who care for them.

Thank you, Jo, for sharing your reason for walking and helping others to understand the impact dementia can have on individuals and their families.

‘Dad had 3 different types of dementia, but my 31 years as a carer helped me support him every step of the way.

‘My dad had a stroke in 2019. By 2022 I noticed little things, like losing track of time and dates very easily. Dad used to get the train to visit me, and on his way home he got lost. I raised concerns with his GP, but to no avail.

'In September 2024, he received his diagnosis of vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s. Dad was devastated. Later, after time in a mental health unit, dementia with Lewy bodies was also diagnosed.

‘Family found it hard at first to understand what dementia was and why it had happened to Dad. For me, it was an emotional rollercoaster. Having to be strong for Dad took its toll on my mental health. Financially, Dad racked up lots of debt as he forgot to pay his bills.

‘I've been a carer for 31 years now, supporting people living with dementia. My experience as a carer helped me to see little things that pointed to Dad having dementia.

‘I was inspired to participate in Memory Walk after losing my Dad, and for those I support who live with dementia.

‘Memory Walk is such an emotional thing for me. The thing I like most is knowing that I can make a difference, no matter how small.

‘If you are thinking of taking part, I would say do it! It's an emotional experience, but you won't be the only one crying, laughing and singing.’

A huge thank you to our friend Jo for sharing what inspires her to be a part of Memory Walk. Who are you walking for? 💙

The right support can make everyday life easier, while helping people remain independent and connected to the things they enjoy.

Interested in learning more about the different types of support available at home? Call 051 878 947 or email [email protected]. We'd be happy to talk through the support options available to you or your loved one.
