When we think of strength, we often imagine pushing harder, staying in control and never letting anything affect us.
But the Strength card offers a softer kind of power.
It’s the courage to remain kind without abandoning your boundaries.
It’s staying patient with yourself when progress feels slow.
It’s recognising strong emotions without letting them make every decision for you.
And sometimes, it’s admitting that you’re tired and need a break instead of pretending everything is fine.
Strength can remind us that being gentle doesn’t make us weak.
You can be soft and still say no.
You can feel afraid and still take the next step.
You can ask for help and still be capable.
You can rest and still be committed to your path.
When Strength appears in a reading, you might ask:
🦁 Where am I stronger than I realise?
🤍 What situation needs patience rather than force?
✨ How can I respond instead of reacting?
🌿 Where do I need courage and compassion together?
You don’t always need to overpower what’s in front of you.
Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is meet it with patience, self-trust and a steady heart.
What does strength look like for you at the moment?

Incense sticks, ordinary cones and backflow cones might all smell lovely, but they give very different experiences.
Not sure which one to choose? Here’s a quick guide.
Incense sticks
These are a lovely everyday option.
They usually burn gradually and release fragrance over a longer period, making them useful for meditation, journalling, cleansing a space or simply creating a calm atmosphere.
You’ll need a suitable incense holder to catch the ash.
Incense cones
Cones create fragrance without the long stick of ash.
They’re compact, easy to use and often give a stronger burst of scent. Place them on a heat-resistant holder designed for cones.
Backflow incense cones
These are specially designed to work with a backflow burner.
Instead of the smoke rising normally, it flows down through the burner to create a waterfall-style effect. An ordinary incense cone won’t create the same result, so make sure you’re using the correct backflow type.
Whichever style you choose:
🔥 use a suitable heat-resistant holder
🌬️ keep the room gently ventilated
👀 never leave burning incense unattended
🐾 keep it away from children and pets
🤍 be mindful of anyone with breathing or fragrance sensitivities
Violet Moon stocks a selection of incense and burners, so whether you’re looking for something simple for everyday use or a beautiful backflow display, there are plenty of scents and styles to explore.
Have a look through the current selection or send me a message if you’re not sure which type you need.
Are you a stick, cone or backflow incense person?

Tonight brings a New Moon in Leo, alongside a solar eclipse.
Leo energy is often connected with courage, creativity, confidence and allowing yourself to take up a little more space.
But eclipse days can feel different from an ordinary New Moon.
Rather than putting pressure on yourself to manifest a completely new life before bedtime, this can be a chance to slow down and notice what’s coming up.

You might ask yourself:
🦁 Where am I ready to trust myself more?
✨ What part of me have I been keeping hidden?
🔥 What would I create if I worried less about being judged?
🤍 Where could I speak to myself with more kindness?

You don’t need an elaborate eclipse ritual.
You could simply:
🌑 sit quietly for a few minutes
📖 write down what you’ve been noticing
🕯️ light a candle after the eclipse has passed
🛁 take a cleansing bath or shower
🌿 rest and let your thoughts settle

The eclipse will appear as a deep partial solar eclipse here in Wexford, with the maximum taking place shortly after 7:00 pm.
Please don’t look directly at the Sun. Ordinary sunglasses aren’t enough — proper eclipse viewers or a safe indirect viewing method are needed.
Let this be a day for observation rather than pressure.
You don’t have to decide what everything means straight away. Sometimes clarity arrives after we’ve given ourselves a little space.
What part of yourself are you ready to trust more?

Your altar doesn’t need to look as though it belongs in a magazine.
You don’t need a crystal for every possible situation, twelve different tarot decks or a perfectly organised cupboard of herbs.
You don’t have to celebrate every moon phase, know every correspondence or complete a beautiful ritual every week.
Some days your practice might look like lighting a candle and setting an intention.
Other days it might be making a cup of tea, opening a window, standing outside for five quiet minutes or deciding that rest is the ritual.
You’re allowed to:
✨ keep things simple
✨ change your mind
✨ explore different paths
✨ ask questions
✨ take breaks
✨ use what you already own
✨ build a practice that actually fits your life
Spirituality isn’t a competition, and there’s no prize for having the most beautiful altar on Instagram.
The things you do with care and meaning will always matter more than how perfect they look.

A money bowl is a simple abundance ritual that gives you a physical place to focus your intentions.
It isn’t about putting a coin in a bowl and waiting for money to magically appear at the door — although wouldn’t that be handy? 😄
Think of it as a gentle reminder to stay open to opportunities, appreciate what you already have and keep taking practical steps towards the financial life you want.
Start with a bowl
Use a small bowl, dish or cauldron that you already own. It doesn’t need to be expensive or specially made for witchcraft.
Add a base
You could use:
🌾 rice or oats for abundance and nourishment
🧂 salt for grounding and protection
🌿 dried herbs such as basil or mint
Add a few abundance symbols
Choose what feels right to you:
🪙 coins or folded notes
🍃 a bay leaf with your intention written on it
🪵 a cinnamon stick
💚 Green Aventurine
💛 Citrine
🕯️ a green, gold or white candle placed safely beside the bowl
Write a clear intention and place it inside. Instead of something vague like “I want lots of money”, you could write:
“I welcome steady opportunities that support my home and wellbeing.”
Place your bowl somewhere safe and return to it regularly. Add a coin, refresh the herbs or take a moment to repeat your intention.
And don’t forget the practical part. Send the application, check the budget, promote the business, save what you can or take the next small step available to you.
Magic and practical action work much better as a team. ✨
You can use what you already have, or choose crystals, herbs, candles and ritual tools from Violet Moon to help you create a bowl that feels personal to you.
I’ve shared a fuller guide on the Violet Moon blog with more ingredient ideas, practical steps, safety guidance and advice on refreshing or closing your bowl. You’ll find it through the link in bio.

When you hear the word cauldron, you might picture a bubbling potion, a crooked wooden spoon and a very busy witch. 🧙‍♀️

In reality, a small ritual cauldron can be used in lots of simple and meaningful ways.
You could use one to:
✨ hold crystals or dried botanicals
🌿 create a seasonal altar display
📝 collect written intentions
🌙 hold small offerings during a ritual
🕯️ display an LED candle or other altar pieces
🔥 safely burn suitable materials, but only if your cauldron is designed for heat

They’re also lovely for money bowls, manifestation bowls, protection blends or simply adding a little quiet magic to your space.
There’s no single “correct” way to use a cauldron. It can be practical, symbolic, decorative or a mixture of all three.

The most important thing is choosing a use that feels meaningful to you — and always checking whether your particular cauldron is suitable before using any flame, charcoal or burning herbs inside it.
Cauldrons are available from Violet Moon. You can have a look at the current selection through the link in bio, or send me a message if you’d like help choosing one. ✨

Thinking of using a cauldron as a money bowl? I’ve shared a complete step-by-step guide on the Violet Moon blog, including ingredients, intentions and ways to keep your bowl active.

Lion’s Gate Portal — 8 August 🦁✨

You may have heard people talking about the Lion’s Gate Portal, but what exactly is it?

The Lion’s Gate Portal is a modern spiritual and astrological observance associated with 8 August, during Leo Season. It’s commonly linked with the star Sirius returning to the morning sky, the symbolism of Leo and the numerological significance of 8/8. In spiritual practice, these ideas are brought together as a symbolic “gateway” for confidence, personal growth, abundance and setting intentions.

The word portal doesn’t mean that a physical doorway opens in the sky. It’s a spiritual way of describing a period that some people choose to use for reflection, manifestation and reconnecting with what they genuinely want to create.

The astronomical timing of Sirius’s first visible morning appearance varies depending on location, viewing conditions and the year, so it doesn’t occur everywhere on exactly 8 August. The fixed 8/8 date is mainly part of the modern spiritual and numerological tradition.

Because this falls during Leo Season, the Lion’s Gate Portal is often connected with:

🦁 courage and self-confidence
💛 heart-led choices
✨ creativity and self-expression
🌿 personal growth
🌟 abundance and opportunity
🔥 allowing yourself to be seen

You don’t need to perform a complicated ritual or put pressure on yourself to manifest an entirely new life today.

You could simply:

✨ light a candle and sit quietly with your intention
📝 write down one goal you’d genuinely like to nurture
🦁 reflect on where you’re ready to trust yourself more
💛 choose one practical step that supports your intention
🌿 focus on how you want to feel as you move forward

A helpful question for today might be:

What would I choose if I trusted myself a little more?

Manifestation isn’t only about wishing for something. It can also mean becoming clear about what you want, noticing opportunities and taking practical steps towards it.

Whether you work with the Lion’s Gate Portal spiritually or simply use 8 August as a moment for reflection, let it be a gentle invitation to recognise your strengths and move forward with intention.

What are you ready to approach with a little more courage?

Some growth happens quietly.
It takes root beneath the surface, little by little, before there’s anything obvious to see.

Moss Agate is often connected with patience, grounding, steady growth and the natural world, which makes it a lovely crystal to explore during the harvest season.
You might feel drawn to Moss Agate when you’re:
🌿 beginning something new
🌿 trying to build a habit slowly
🌿 feeling frustrated with your progress
🌿 wanting to reconnect with nature
🌿 nurturing your home, garden, creativity or business
🌿 learning to trust that slow progress is still progress

One simple way to work with it is to hold the stone while choosing one small, realistic intention.
Instead of asking:
“How can I change everything?”
Try asking:
“What’s one small thing I can keep nurturing?”

You could carry the crystal with you, leave it beside your journal or place it near the space connected with your intention.
There’s no need to use crystals in a complicated way. Sometimes they’re simply a physical reminder of the qualities we want to encourage in ourselves.

What are you allowing to grow slowly this August?

You don’t need a large altar or lots of special tools to mark Lúnasa.
A small shelf, tray, table or windowsill can become a lovely little space for gratitude, reflection and recognising what’s grown in your life.

Start with a simple base.
You could use a cloth in cream, green, gold, brown or any colour that feels warm and seasonal to you.

Then add something that represents the harvest, such as:
🌾 oats, wheat or barley
🍞 a small piece of bread
🍎 seasonal fruit
🌿 herbs or flowers from your garden
🕯️ a candle in a warm or earthy shade

You could also write down something you’re grateful for or something you’ve worked hard to nurture. Fold the note and place it on your altar.
Add something personal too, such as a crystal, a photograph, a handmade object or a natural item that feels meaningful to you.
When your altar is ready, sit beside it for a few quiet moments. Light your candle safely, take a few slow breaths and say:
“I give thanks for what has grown, and I offer patience to what’s still becoming.”
This is a simple modern practice inspired by the harvest themes of Lúnasa. There’s no right or wrong way to create it.
Use what you already have, make it personal and remember never to leave a burning candle unattended.

There are more simple ideas for marking the season in my full Lúnasa guide on the Violet Moon blog.

Save this guide for when you’re ready to create your own little Lúnasa altar.

When we think of Lúnasa, we often think about harvest, gratitude and the first signs of abundance — but there’s also a lovely old tradition connected with this time of year: Fraughan Sunday. 💜

“Fraughan” is another name for the bilberry, a small dark wild berry that was traditionally gathered around the Lúnasa season.

In parts of Ireland, people would head to the hillsides to pick bilberries in late July or early August. These outings became tied to seasonal gatherings, local custom and the celebration of the first fruits of the land.

So while Lúnasa is often linked with grain and harvest, bilberries remind us that this season was also about:
🌿 gathering from the land
💜 noticing what nature was offering
🥾 spending time outdoors and in community
✨ marking the turning of the season in simple, practical ways
There’s something really beautiful about that.
It wasn’t always about doing a big formal ritual. Sometimes it was about being out in nature, gathering what was in season and sharing that experience with others.

If you’d like to honour that spirit in a gentle modern way, you could:
💜 go for a mindful walk in nature
💜 notice what plants and berries are in season around you
💜 make a simple seasonal offering of fruit or bread
💜 add berries, bramble leaves or hedgerow inspiration to a Lúnasa altar
💜 spend a little time reflecting on what you’re gathering in your own life
Of course, if you ever forage, it’s important to be sure of identification, gather responsibly and only take what is safe and permitted.

I love these kinds of traditions because they remind us that seasonal spirituality doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be rooted in the land, the time of year and the simple act of paying attention.

You can read more about Fraughan Sunday and the wider traditions of Lúnasa in the new Violet Moon blog.
