Your Kid with ADHD
Your kid with ADHD
Will leave the key in the door.
Theyâll yell,
Theyâll scream.
Theyâll talk faster than you thought possible.
Theyâll bounce off the ceilingâ
Then break the floor.
Theyâll stir up chaos,
Theyâll bring the storm.
Untilâ
They learn to pause.
Untilâ
They learn to listen.
Untilâ
They learn to wait.
Untilâ
They learn itâs worth it.
Itâs worth it to slow down.
And their whole life
Might become research
On how to do just that.
Theyâll learn
They were born with a faster clock than the world.
They donât live by hours, minutes, or secondsâ
They run on milliseconds.
But theyâll come to see
That itâs worth matching the slowness of others,
To find them,
To see them.
And itâs worth moving a little slower
To finish,
To accomplish,
To reach their goals.
And thenâ
Theyâll show you
Their joy,
Their smile,
Their creativity,
Their colorsâ
All the ways their brain is processing,
Pondering,
And analyzing a world
That feels too slow
And somehow
Too fast.
And you will find each other,
In your differing speeds of life.
You will love each other,
As the beautifully different individuals
That you are.
