Chemotherapy no longer works. What now?

This is one of the most common questions we hear from patients and their families. The answer is rarely straightforward because every case is different.

Chemotherapy remains one of the most important cancer treatments and can slow tumor growth or lead to remission. However, it also has limitations.

βœ” Not all cancers respond to chemotherapy.
βœ” Cancer cells may become resistant to treatment over time.
βœ” Cancer stem cells may survive and contribute to recurrence.
βœ” Treatment-related toxicity may require dose reduction or interruption.

In such situations, immunotherapy may become an important treatment option.

Immunotherapy helps the immune system recognize and destroy cancer cells. It may be particularly effective at the stage of minimal residual disease, during remission, and when chemotherapy cannot be continued because of toxicity.

In patients with larger tumors, immunotherapy may help slow disease progression and, in some cases, contribute to tumor shrinkage.

Every patient's response to treatment is different, which is why a personalized approach is essential.

"The era of insulin is coming to an end" β€” said Professor Shimon Slavin and Professor Shmuel Levit in a conversation about innovative methods of treating diabetes.

It sounds bold. But behind that statement is a real shift in how type 1 diabetes can be approached.

What happens in type 1 diabetes. The immune system mistakenly identifies the beta cells of the pancreas as a threat and attacks them. These cells produce insulin β€” the hormone that allows glucose to move from the bloodstream into the body's tissues. When too few beta cells remain, the body can no longer regulate blood sugar on its own. The result is a lifelong dependency on external insulin.

What the classical approach offers. Replacement. Injections, pumps, constant monitoring. It works, but it doesn't treat the underlying disease. Beta cells keep being destroyed, the condition keeps progressing, complications accumulate.
What cellular therapy offers. A different angle: addressing the mechanism, not just the symptom. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have two key properties. First, immunomodulation: they can reduce the autoimmune aggression directed at the body's own tissues. Second, regenerative support: they create conditions in which the remaining beta cells can function longer and more effectively.

This is not magic, and it's not a promise of a complete cure. It's an attempt to change the course of the disease itself, not just to compensate for its consequences.

Professor Shmuel Levit is an endocrinologist and our long-standing partner in caring for patients with endocrine conditions. Professor Shimon Slavin is the scientific director of Biotherapy International and a pioneer of cellular medicine.

Medicine is not only about protocols and treatment.
It is above all about people and relationships that sometimes last for years.

Almost 16 years ago, Neta was diagnosed with astrocytoma, a form of brain cancer. After surgery and chemotherapy, the tumor recurred.

🌿 Instead of another surgery that could have led to disability, Neta chose personalized immunotherapy.
Today, she lives an active life without medication.

Brain cancer is one of the most aggressive forms of oncological disease, often recurring even after surgery and standard therapy. The reason: cancer cells remain in brain tissue, and the blood-brain barrier blocks most drugs.

This is why long-term disease control requires approaches that can engage the immune system in fighting the tumor.

πŸ”¬ We apply a comprehensive approach used after standard treatment or in case of recurrence:

1. Oncolytic viruses
2. Ommaya reservoir
3. therapy
4. Personalized anti-cancer vaccines
5. (Photodynamic Therapy)

Each protocol is developed individually by Professor Shimon Slavin after detailed analysis of medical history, MRI scans, and tumor molecular data. Treatment is conducted at partner clinics in Germany or Kazakhstan.

Who is immunotherapy for:

βœ… Diagnosed brain cancer (including glioblastoma WHO grade IV)
βœ… Residual tumor tissue after surgery
βœ… Disease recurrence
βœ… Standard treatment options exhausted

Professor Shimon Slavin explains how immunotherapy works for brain cancer and why oncolytic viruses can be effective even against resistant tumors.

We specialize in treating complex oncological cases and restoring the body using cellular technologies.
The clinic was founded and is directed by Professor Shimon Slavin, a renowned expert in immunotherapy and transplantology.

➑️ WHERE WE OPERATE

Our headquarters is located in Tel Aviv, Israel. Treatment is conducted at partner clinics in Germany and Kazakhstan under the medical supervision of our Israeli team. Patients from any country can receive an online consultation and access to our treatment protocols.

➑️ CANCER IMMUNOTHERAPY METHODS

We apply advanced personalized methods for treating resistant and recurrent forms of cancer:

βœ”οΈ Oncolytic viruses β€” viruses that selectively destroy cancer cells

βœ”οΈ ATACK method β€” innovative technology for activating anti-tumor immunity

βœ”οΈ Personalized anti-cancer vaccines β€” created based on the patient's tumor tissue

Each treatment plan is developed individually by Professor Shimon Slavin, taking into account the specifics of each case.

➑️ REGENERATIVE MEDICINE

We harness the potential of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) to restore tissues in neurodegenerative, autoimmune, and other diseases. MSCs help reduce inflammation and restore lost bodily functions.

➑️ WHO WE TREAT

βœ”οΈ Patients with brain tumors and other types of cancer
βœ”οΈ Patients with neurodegenerative and autoimmune diseases

➑️ HOW TO START TREATMENT

Patients from any country begin with an online consultation with Professor Shimon Slavin. He personally reviews all medical documents and develops an individualized treatment plan.

When a patient undergoes surgery or biopsy, the removed tumor tissue is usually sent for histological analysis. But few people know that these samples can become the basis for creating a personalized anti-cancer vaccine β€” if properly preserved.

βœ… How does it work?
Our clinic operates a specialized Tumor Bank.
Tissue samples are cryopreserved and stored at -80Β°C or in liquid nitrogen at -196Β°C. Under these conditions, tumor cells retain all the necessary characteristics for future anti-cancer vaccine development.

βœ… Why is this needed?
A preserved tumor sample allows for the creation of a personalized anti-cancer vaccine. Such a vaccine "teaches" your immune system to recognize and attack your specific cancer cells β€” this is an innovative immunotherapy method without severe side effects.

βœ… When is this especially important?
Even if current primary treatment has been successfully completed, cryopreserved tissue may be needed in the future. In case of recurrence or metastasis, when standard therapy methods are exhausted, access to your tumor sample opens the possibility of creating an anti-cancer vaccine β€” an effective tool for personalized immunotherapy.

We recommend all cancer patients consider the possibility of tumor sample cryopreservation in the Tumor Bank. This is your access to anti-cancer vaccine creation in the future β€” a therapy that can save your life.

Do you remember Netta β€” our patient with brain cancer? 🌿 Fifteen years after her diagnosis, she is living a full life.

She has been off cancer therapy for several years now. Her most recent MRI, performed just a few days ago, showed no signs of progression.

24/12/2025

When C. was diagnosed with glioblastoma in the UK and told that life expectancy could be measured in just a few months, her family refused to accept this.

They believed that modern medicine should offer more options β€” especially in the case of a young and otherwise healthy patient. This search for alternatives led them to Biotherapy International, where an individualized comprehensive immunotherapy plan was developed.

🌿 The patient traveled to Germany, where she completed her first course of oncolytic virus therapy.

At present, the disease is under control, with no signs of progression on the most recent MRI.

Metastatic cancer remains one of the most difficult challenges in oncology.

Once cancer cells spread through the bloodstream or lymphatic system to organs such as the liver, lungs, bones, or brain, treatment requires a different, more strategic approach.

Why can immunotherapy be especially valuable in metastatic disease?

βœ… Systemic effect β€” it works throughout the entire body, helping the immune system recognize and attack cancer cells wherever they appear

οΏ½βœ… Personalized approach β€” treatment protocols are tailored to the specific mutations and characteristics of each patient’s tumor

οΏ½βœ… Targeted action β€” unlike chemotherapy, immunotherapy focuses on cancer cells without harming healthy tissues

The best outcomes often come from combination strategies: traditional treatments (such as chemotherapy or radiation therapy) reduce tumor burden first, and immunotherapy then helps maintain long-term control of the disease.

Even in advanced stages, many patients can gain additional time and improve their quality of life. The key is to seek expert guidance early and choose a treatment strategy that fits the individual clinical situation.
