Grateful to have been part of the pioneering first NCIO Conference, organized by Dr. Nina Fuller-Shavel, Dr. Penny Kechagioglou, and their wonderful team.

Nina is a true pioneer in advancing integrative oncology. It was inspiring to meet professionals, patients, and advocates united by a shared vision of more integrative and human cancer care.

Pride and sadness are mixed.

I had the privilege of signing copies of Evidence Based Oncology Acupuncture during the BAcC & RCHM Conference. In the photo behind me, next to my head, is a picture of my co author, Mark Bovey.

Sadly, Mark was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer shortly after we completed the manuscript and passed away before the book was published.

For more than 20 years, Mark served as Head of Research at the British Acupuncture Council, helping to advance acupuncture through scientific rigor, generosity, and unwavering dedication to the profession. During the conference, we paid tribute to his life and contribution.

While Mark was not here to see the publication of this book, his influence is woven throughout its pages. His legacy lives on in the research he championed, the people he mentored, and the profession he helped shape.

This book is, in many ways, part of that legacy. Mark, you are remembered and greatly missed.

Launching the book Shen from Heaven at the TCM Congress in Rothenburg was a deeply meaningful moment.

This book carries seven years of dedicated work, centered on 20 acupuncture points, the Windows of Heaven and points with the name Shen (Spirit). Each point is discussed in a way that reflects a deeper layer of the use of acupuncture and its ability to touch the human spirit, while remaining grounded in clinical application.

I hope it will inspire healing and deepen the understanding of acupuncture and its true potential.

It is more than a book, it is an invitation to experience acupuncture as a truly transformational medicine.

A meaningful chapter has come to an end. After two terms and six years of service, I have completed my role as President of the European Traditional Chinese Medicine Association.

These years have been an extraordinary journey of collaboration, vision and shared commitment to strengthening Chinese medicine in Europe.

Leadership is only a chapter. It is now time to pass the torch to Ricardo Teixeira and the Executive Committee — Gretha Wouda-Krist, Susan Evans, Adrianne Waldt, Benjamin Saez, Caoimhe McGlinchey and Paulina Kryszkiewicz — confident that the path we built together will continue to grow and serve our profession and the healing it brings to humanity.

During this transition I was deeply touched to receive Lifetime Honorary Membership from ETCMA, as well as Honorary Membership from the Polish Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine (PTTMC). I accept these recognitions with gratitude on behalf of the many colleagues who walked this path together.

I remain deeply grateful for the trust, the friendships and the shared work dedicated to advancing Chinese medicine in Europe and beyond.
