World Hypertension Day is over yesterday.
*This is a small reminder that everyday is world hypertension day*
High Blood Pressure (Hypertension) slowly and slowly damages vital organs in the body, and one realizes it too late, after the damage has already been done.
It is best to prevent hypertension.
But that is the hard part, it requires discipline, and hard work and routine.
Hypertension up to a certain degree is a lifestyle problem, and requires lifestyle modifications.
In low risk populations, which is already defined, and a high normal blood pressure - Lifestyle modifications and dietary modifications may be all that is required.
That is how prevention is done.
The problem is that symptoms only appear once a certain threshold of blood pressure is reached - otherwise in low grade hypertension the damage is being silently done without symptoms. That is when these modifications work best.
After a certain limit of pressure has been crossed, medications may be necessary.
Sadly, because of lack of awareness or maybe due to lack of self-awareness or maybe a busy schedule - patients usually come once that threshold is reached- necessitating medications.
However, ideally, lifestyle modifications should be started first and continued lifelong- but this attempt can only be done in low risk patients with high normal blood pressure.
All I’m saying is - be self aware, it is your body, you are free to do what you want with it, but I would recommend that keep your blood pressure and blood sugar levels checked and in control- by whatever means possible.
It pains to see a totally preventable disaster presenting on a daily basis with so many complications just because timely modifications or medications were not started.
Remember, Hypertension may be silent but a heart attack screams.
Take care of your health.
I have tried to present a fairly simple infographic for reference, on simple dietary modifications and lifestyle modifications, that one may use- whether they have hypertension or not.
Have a good day ahead.
