Many cancer journeys begin with one important decision: not to ignore the signs.

A symptom may not always mean cancer. But when something feels unusual, persistent, or unexplained, ignoring it or delaying a consultation rarely helps.

The journey from awareness → timely consultation → accurate diagnosis → understanding your options → appropriate treatment can make a meaningful difference.

Cancer care isn't only about treating the disease. It's also about recognising it at the right time and making informed decisions with the right medical team.

If something doesn't feel right, don't let fear become the reason you wait.

Listen to your body. Ask questions. Get clarity.

Cancer needs to be seen earlier. And that requires better data.

The Supreme Court has asked the 19 States and Union Territories that have not yet notified cancer to consider doing so, with the broader goal of strengthening cancer reporting, surveillance, early detection and patient care. Seventeen of the 36 States/UTs had already notified cancer.

Why does this matter?

When cancer cases are reported more systematically, we can build a clearer picture of where cancers are occurring, who is being affected and where screening and cancer-care resources are most needed.

Better data → Better surveillance → Earlier detection → Better planning for cancer care.

And one important clarification: “Notifiable disease” does not mean cancer is contagious. Cancer remains a non-communicable disease; notification is about public-health reporting and surveillance.

As an oncologist, I see this as an important conversation—not just about policy, but about how we can move towards a healthcare system where cancer is detected earlier and patients receive the right care sooner.

Awareness is the first step.
Early detection can change outcomes.

Some places teach you medicine. Some places shape the doctor you become.

Seeing Vadodara Medical College among India’s Top 20 medical colleges and #1 in Gujarat is a moment of immense pride for me as an alumnus.

My years at this institution were about much more than textbooks and examinations. They were about learning from mentors, understanding the responsibility that comes with caring for another human being, and building the foundation that would eventually lead me to Surgical Oncology.

Today, as I look back, I feel grateful for:

The teachers who guided me.
The lessons that stayed with me.
The foundation that continues to shape my work.

Institutions are remembered not only by their rankings, but by the doctors they help shape and the lives those doctors go on to touch.

Proud to be an alumnus. Grateful for the journey.

A healthier India is a stronger India. 🇮🇳

Independence is not only the freedom we celebrate—it is also the freedom to make informed choices about our health.

As a surgical oncologist, I believe a healthier India begins with:

Awareness over fear.
Early detection over delay.
The right care when it matters.

From cancer prevention and early detection to access to evidence-based treatment, every step towards better health makes our nation stronger.

This Independence Day, let us build an India where people are empowered with the right knowledge, seek care without fear, and never lose hope.

Happy Independence Day! 🇮🇳

45 isn't the only number that matters. Awareness does.

Colon Cancer is increasingly being diagnosed in younger adults, which is why we cannot afford to dismiss persistent symptoms or assume that age alone means we are “safe.”

The important message isn't fear.
It is awareness, timely evaluation and early detection.

Know your risk.
Know your family history.
Pay attention to changes in your body.
And speak to a doctor when something doesn't feel right.

Cancer screening and appropriate medical evaluation can help detect disease earlier, when treatment may be more effective.

As a Surgical Oncologist, I believe good cancer care begins long before the operating room—with awareness and the right information.

Don't ignore the signs. Don't delay the conversation.
