Contact lenses + Monsoon = Extra Care for Your Eyes

Do you wear contact lenses every day?

The rainy season may increase the risk of eye infections due to rainwater, humidity, and poor lens hygiene. A few simple precautions can help protect your eyesight.

Here’s what every contact lens user should remember:

• Avoid wearing contact lenses during heavy rainfall whenever possible.
• Always clean and disinfect reusable contact lenses before reusing them.
• Consider using daily disposable contact lenses during the monsoon.
• If rainwater enters your eyes or you experience irritation, remove your contact lenses immediately.
• Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before handling your contact lenses.
• If possible, switch to spectacles during the rainy season to reduce the risk of eye infections.

Ignoring these precautions can increase the chances of conjunctivitis, corneal infections, and other serious eye problems.

If you notice redness, pain, watering, blurred vision, light sensitivity, or discomfort while wearing contact lenses, consult an eye specialist immediately.

Does conjunctivitis spread just by looking into someone’s eyes?

One of the most common questions eye specialists hear is:
“My wife has conjunctivitis. Will I get it just by looking at her?”

The answer is No.

Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye) does not spread by eye contact alone. It mainly spreads through direct contact with infected tears, eye discharge, contaminated hands, towels, handkerchiefs, pillow covers, makeup, or frequently touched surfaces.

If you have conjunctivitis, follow these simple precautions:

• Use the eye drops and medicines prescribed by your ophthalmologist.
• Avoid touching or rubbing your eyes.
• Wash your hands regularly with soap and water.
• Do not share towels, handkerchiefs, pillow covers, eye cosmetics, or spectacles.
• Wear sunglasses outdoors to protect your eyes from sunlight, dust, pollution, and irritation.
• Stay home if possible to reduce the risk of spreading the infection.

Early diagnosis and timely treatment help you recover faster while protecting your family, friends, and colleagues from infection.

If you experience red eyes, itching, watering, sticky discharge, irritation, burning sensation, swelling, or blurred vision, consult an experienced eye specialist without delay.

Don't let a random eye drop put your vision at risk. Many over-the-counter eye drops contain antibiotics or steroids, and using them without proper diagnosis can do more harm than good. Always consult an eye specialist before starting any treatment.

Monsoon mein red eyes ko normal allergy samajhkar ignore mat karo.

Agar aankhon mein redness, itching, watery eyes, sticky discharge ya irritation ho raha hai, toh it could be conjunctivitis, commonly known as eye flu.

Monsoon season mein conjunctivitis cases zyada badhte hain because it is infectious and mainly spreads through touch, not just by looking at someone.

Please remember:

Do not rub your eyes.
Do not touch your eyes again and again.
Do not share towels, napkins, eye drops or makeup.
Wash your hands frequently.
Wear protective glasses when going outside.
Use only doctor-prescribed eye drops.
Do not stop your drops suddenly once you feel better.

Many patients stop medicines as soon as redness reduces, but infection can come back if the treatment is left incomplete.

So, red eyes in monsoon? Don’t self-medicate. Get your eyes checked by an eye specialist.

Your post-cataract surgery checkup is an important part of safe recovery. Even if you feel your vision is clear, your eye specialist needs to check:

• Any early sign of eye infection
• Proper healing of the surgical incision
• Whether your eye drops need to be reduced or changed

• Overall recovery of your eye after surgery

A routine follow-up helps your cataract surgeon ensure your eye is healing well and your vision is improving safely.

Will you need glasses after cataract surgery?

The answer depends on the type of intra ocular lens selected during your cataract surgery.

At Vision Plus Eye Hospital, Paldi, Ahmedabad, our ophthalmologists guide patients about different cataract lens options based on their eye condition, lifestyle, reading habits, driving needs and vision goals.

Monofocal Lens
Helps provide clear distance vision, but reading glasses may still be required for near work.

Multifocal Lens
Helps improve both distance and near vision, reducing dependency on glasses. However, some patients may experience glare while night driving or difficulty reading in low light.

EDOF Lens
Extended Depth of Focus lens offers clear distance vision and comfortable intermediate vision, with reduced glare compared to some multifocal lenses. For very fine reading, minimal glasses may still be required.

Toric Lens
For patients with high cylindrical power or astigmatism, Toric lenses may be recommended after a detailed eye examination.

Every eye is different. Before cataract surgery, consult an experienced ophthalmologist and understand which cataract lens is most suitable for your eyes, lifestyle and long-term vision needs.
