Not Just Back Pain: Understanding Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS)
Most people think chronic back pain is just a sign of a busy life. But if you are under the age of 45 and experiencing specific types of discomfort, it could be an inflammatory condition called "ankylosing spondylitis" (AS).

This World AS Day, we want to highlight that AS is a systemic condition where early diagnosis is the key to protecting your mobility.

Red Flags You Should Not Ignore:
If you are younger than 45 and experience the following, it is time to consult a rheumatologist:

a) Early Morning Stiffness: Stiffness lasting more than 30 minutes after waking up.

b) Sleep Disturbance: Being forced to awaken in the second half of the night due to back pain.

Exercise vs. Rest: Pain that improves with physical activity but does not get better (or even worsens) with rest.

Duration: Persistent low back pain lasting for more than 3 months.

Why It Matters:
Beyond the Spine: AS can also cause Uveitis (eye redness/pain), Enthesitis (heel pain), Psoriasis, and gut issues.

The Risk of Delay: Untreated inflammation can lead to "Bamboo Spine," where vertebrae fuse, causing permanent deformity.

Effective Management: With modern Biologics, DMARDs, and Physical Therapy, we can halt progression and restore quality of life.

સાંધાનો દુખાવો: શું તે માત્ર સામાન્ય 'વા' છે કે બીજું કંઈક ગંભીર? 🩺⚠️

મોટાભાગના લોકો એવું માને છે કે સાંધાનો દુખાવો એટલે ફક્ત રુમેટોઈડ આર્થરાઈટિસ (સંધિવા). પરંતુ શું તમે જાણો છો કે સાંધાનો દુખાવો શરીરના અન્ય ગંભીર અને જીવલેણ રોગોનો સંકેત પણ હોઈ શકે છે?

કેટલીક વાર સાંધાનો દુખાવો નીચેની ગંભીર બીમારીઓ સાથે જોડાયેલો હોય છે:

લ્યુપસ (SLE): જેમાં સાંધાના દુખાવા સાથે ચહેરા પર લાલાશ અને કિડની-ફેફસા પર અસર થઈ શકે છે.

વાસ્ક્યુલાઈટિસ: લોહીની નળીઓમાં સોજો આવવો, જે મગજ કે હૃદય જેવા મહત્વના અંગોને નુકસાન પહોંચાડી શકે છે.

અન્ય ઓટોઈમ્યુન રોગો: જે જીવન માટે જોખમી બની શકે છે જો સમયસર નિદાન ન થાય.

યાદ રાખો: સાંધાના દુખાવાને સામાન્ય ગણીને પેઈન કિલર લેવાને બદલે તેના મૂળ કારણને સમજવું જરૂરી છે. નિષ્ણાત રુમેટોલોજિસ્ટ પાસે યોગ્ય તપાસ કરાવો અને તમારા મહત્વના અંગોને સુરક્ષિત રાખો. 🛡️

તે રુર્મેટોઇડ આર્થ્રાઇટિસ હોઈ શકે છે — એક ઓટોઇમ્યુન રોગ, જે સાંધા અને શરીરના અન્ય અંગો (જેમ કે ફેફસાં)ને અસર કરી શકે છે.

🔍 લક્ષણો પર ધ્યાન આપો:
• સાંધામાં દુખાવો અને સોજો
• સવારે લાંબો સમય જકડાણ
• હાથના નાના સાંધામાં તકલીફ
• ઘૂંટણ અને પગમાં દુખાવો
• સાંધાની વિકૃતિ
• ફેફસાં પર અસર (ILD)

⚠️ વહેલી સારવારથી ગંભીર નુકસાન ટાળી શકાય છે.
