🧘♀️ Seated Spinal Twist: How To Do It Safely
Do you spend long hours sitting at a desk, working on a computer, or traveling? A Seated Spinal Twist can be a simple way to work on spinal mobility, flexibility, and posture.
This gentle exercise encourages rotational movement of the spine and can help release tension around the back, shoulders, and hips.
✅ How to perform it safely:
• Sit tall with your spine lengthened
• Keep your sitting bones grounded
• Place one foot outside the opposite leg
• Inhale and lengthen your spine
• Exhale and gently rotate your torso
• Let the rotation progress from the lower/mid-back rather than forcing the neck
• Breathe normally and avoid forcing the stretch
• Repeat on both sides
⚠️ Avoid common mistakes:
❌ Twisting only through the neck
❌ Collapsing or rounding the spine
❌ Using your arm to force a deeper twist
❌ Lifting your hips while rotating
❌ Pushing into pain
People with spinal injuries, herniated discs, recent surgery, pregnancy, or significant hip/knee pain may need modifications or professional guidance before performing deeper twists.
