People often think the most difficult part of my job is operating on the heart.
It isn’t.
The hardest part is saying goodbye.
Recently, after her bypass surgery, a patient was ready to go home. She hugged me tightly, tears in her eyes, and kept saying, “Doctor, I don’t want to leave.”
In that moment, I realized we hadn’t just repaired a heart; we had built a bond of trust, hope, and gratitude.
This is why we do what we do.
Long hours. Sleepless nights. Constant responsibility.
Not for applause but for moments like these when a patient leaves with a healthier heart and a smile that says more than words could.
On this Doctor’s Day, my deepest gratitude goes to my entire team my fellow doctors, anesthetists, nurses, perfusionists, technicians, ICU staff, ward staff, and every healthcare professional who works tirelessly behind the scenes. Every successful surgery and every recovered patient is the result of teamwork, dedication, and compassion.
To every patient who has placed their trust in us, thank you. It is the greatest privilege of our profession.
Happy Doctor’s Day.
