Alopecia totalis (AT) is a severe, non-scarring autoimmune skin condition characterized by the complete loss of all hair on the scalp. It exists on a clinical spectrum of Alopecia Areata, where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks its own healthy hair follicles. While the condition causes the follicles to enter a prolonged inactive phase, it does not destroy them permanently, meaning hair regrowth remains clinically possible.
