" The theme for International Day for Persons with Disabilities 2022 is “Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fueling an accessible and equitable world.”

According to the Global Report on Assistive Technology, 2.5 billion people need at least one assistive product. The demand is expected to go up to 3.5 billion by 2050. The requirement may range from a spectacle to highly advanced myoelectric hand or robotic exoskeletons. However, nearly nine out of 10 people who need assistive technology do not have access to it – this has an adverse impact on the education, livelihood, health and well-being of individuals, families, communities and societies.

Let’s join hands to build a more inclusive world — spread the word and commit to action. "

“Building Back Better: toward a disability-inclusive, accessible and sustainable post COVID-19 World” is the UN 's theme for this year's International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

People with disability have been amongst the most vulnerable populations during the current COVID-19 outbreak due to many health, social and environmental barriers, discriminatory attitudes and inaccessible infrastructure. So it's so important that we need to shape a service delivery system rooted in the communities, reaching out and empowering people with disability

The COVID-19 pandemic provides a unique opportunity to build back better our systems so that they are more inclusive and responsive to the needs and human rights of people experiencing disability in all their diversity.

Lets work together to ensure the participation of people with disabilities including autism in cultural youth events, community, self-determination and decision making. Most important of all access to post-secondary education, employment and be able to live independently must be catered to.

Today, while the world faces the crisis impacted by Covid-19, we are adapting to the limitations. Work places, classrooms, therapy rooms are being shifted to each individuals‘ homes. In this scenario, we must make sure that our non traditional ways of working, learning, engaging each other and the global response to coronavirus are inclusive and accessible to all people, including persons with autism.

“Assistive Technologies, Active Participation”

"For many people on the autism spectrum, access to affordable assistive technologies is a prerequisite to being able to exercise their basic human rights and participate fully in the life of their communities, and thereby contribute to the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Assistive technology can reduce or eliminate the barriers to their participation on an equal basis with others.

The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities acknowledges the instrumental role of assistive technologies in enabling persons with disabilities to exercise their rights and freedoms."
