Hepatocellular adenoma
Nodular hyperplasia
Hepatic hematoma
Abscess
Regenerative nodules
Ultrasonographic clues
Hepatocellular carcinoma: large solitary mass, often one liver lobe.
Cholangiocarcinoma: irregular, invasive, multiple nodules, frequent metastasis.
Hemangiosarcoma: cavitated/heterogeneous mass with hemorrhage.
Lymphoma: diffuse hepatomegaly or multiple hypoechoic nodules.
Definitive diagnosis: Cytology can be suggestive, but histopathology (biopsy) is usually required for accurate tumor typing, especially to differentiate hepatocellular carcinoma from nodular hyperplasia or adenoma.
