👧 Study alert on low in girls

📍 What was studied:

Rectoperineal fistula (RPF) and rectovestibular fistula (RVF) are the most common low ARMs in girls and often require early surgical correction.

🛠️ Approach:
One-step ventral + dorsal in 77 infants without prior colostomy

⏱️ Median operative time: 34 min
🏥 Median hospital stay: 2 days

Key findings:

✅ Abnormal anatomy was seen in all cases
✅ No secondary needed.
✅ 98% symptom resolution
✅ 97% success rate
✅ All girls achieved spontaneous bowel movements at follow-up

📈 Take-home message:
RPF/RVF share consistent anatomic abnormalities, and one-step ventral and dorsal proctoplasty offers precise anatomical correction with encouraging early outcomes.

🫁 This study looked at low-pressure (6–8 mmHg) during laparoscopic in neonates and infants 👶🩺

🧠 stayed stable

🫀 dipped briefly, then recovered

💧 Urine output decreased temporarily after surgery

✅ Bottom line: low-pressure pneumoperitoneum appears safe and well tolerated in neonatal .

🩺✨ Spotlight ✨🩺

A rare case of epigastric heteropagus twin in a full-term neonate was successfully diagnosed early and managed with multidisciplinary surgical separation 👶🔬

✅ No visceral sharing
✅ Careful vascular planning
✅ Uneventful recovery
✅ Normal growth at 9 months 🌱

A powerful reminder of how early diagnosis + teamwork can lead to a favorable outcome 💙

✨ Changing the way we treat

🏥 In-office procedure
💉 local anesthesia
🚶 No pain medication. No activity restrictions.
😊 Mean pain score: 1.6/10
✅ 88% of patients ultimately healed all pits.

This study highlights a , non-operative approach that may allow pilonidal disease to be treated in a single outpatient visit—without even a shot.

🩺✨ New Paper Alert!

The European Pediatric Surgical Audit (EPSA) is helping improve care for children with rare across Europe 🇪🇺👶

📊 Since 2019, EPSA has grown into a real-time registry that tracks:

➡️ Baseline data
➡️ Treatments
➡️ Outcomes

💡 The goal?
To benchmark quality of care, spot differences between hospitals 🏥, and support better treatment decisions through a live dashboard 📈💻

🌍 Today, 27 hospitals in 15 countries are already connected — and EPSA is still expanding!

🔬 More data = more knowledge = better care for rare conditions 💙

🩺 Spotlight: 👶 A 7-month-old infant presented with a rapidly enlarging, firm mass of the arm.

🖼️ MRI suggested a low-flow vascular malformation… but pathology told a different story.

🔬 (FHI) was confirmed after complete excision.

⚠️ Key takeaway: FHI can closely mimic vascular lesions on imaging, making diagnosis challenging.

✅ Surgical removal provides both definitive diagnosis and curative treatment.

🍃 in Teens: What Happened Long-Term?

📊 In an 8-year follow-up of a randomized trial, laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) led to early weight loss in adolescents with severe obesity.

⏳ But over time, the effect did not last.

⚠️ 52% of bands were removed

🩺 Main reasons: pain, vomiting, reflux, and poor weight loss

✅ Bottom line: LAGB showed limited long-term effectiveness and has largely been replaced by more effective bariatric procedures.

🩺✨ associated with

👶🔬 A large single-center review of 2,341 ARM patients found this combination to be very rare — only 7 cases (0.3%).

📌 Key takeaways:

➡️ Most cases were low-type ARM

➡️ Persistent constipation + abdominal distension after surgery should raise suspicion 🚨

➡️ Tests like barium e***a and anorectal manometry helped confirm HSCR 🧪

➡️ After Swenson surgery, long-term outcomes were excellent 🌟

💡 Bottom line:

If bowel symptoms don’t improve after ARM repair, HSCR should be considered early for timely diagnosis and treatment.
