Brushing matters. But cavities are rarely explained by brushing alone. When a child develops cavities despite an attentive home routine, the answer should not begin with blame.
A pediatric caries-risk assessment looks at the wider pattern: fluoride exposure, how often teeth meet fermentable carbohydrates, deep grooves or tight contacts, saliva, previous cavities, medicines, health needs and daily routines.
Brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste remains essential. The important point is that prevention works best when the rest of the pattern is understood as well. If cavities keep returning, ask for a risk-based prevention conversation—not a generic lecture.
