Diagnostic accuracy and workflow efficiency are foundational to effective emergency neuroimaging.
A meta-analysis in Brain and Spine by Dr. Arjun Kalyanpur et al. evaluates the diagnostic performance and clinical applications of artificial intelligence for detecting intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) on CT scans.
Drawing on evidence from 29 research algorithms and 16 commercial AI system implementations, the analysis confirms high diagnostic accuracy for ICH detection, with commercial systems demonstrating stronger specificity.
While detection performance varies across hemorrhage subtypes, real-world deployments show measurable clinical impact, including faster treatment decisions and earlier escalation of critical cases.
The findings also highlight key priorities for the field, including prospective validation and targeted algorithm development across challenging ICH subtypes.
At Image Core Lab, we support radiology AI and SaMD development through expert annotation, ground truthing, and technical validation, with a focus on real-world clinical performance.
