🍚 Baby Maria’s Red Rice Meal 🍚
As Baby M approaches 8 months, we’re gradually moving away from smooth purées and introducing thicker, textured meals to support chewing, oral motor development, and texture acceptance.
✨ Ingredients:
• Red rice
• Toor dal
• Kidney beans
• Churi ki bhaji
• Onion
• Tomato
• 1 small piece beetroot
• Turmeric
• Black peppercorns
👩🍳 Method:
Soak the red rice, toor dal, and kidney beans for a few hours. Add them to a pressure cooker along with chopped onion, tomato, Churi ki bhaji, beetroot, turmeric, and black peppercorns. Cook until everything is soft and well done. Lightly mash to a soft, textured consistency suitable for your baby’s developmental stage.
🥩 Non-vegetarian option:
(Instead of kidney beans, add one medium-sized piece of chicken or mutton and pressure cook it along with the other ingredients.)
🥚🧈 Healthy fat boost:
Add ½–1 tsp ghee before serving or offer an egg yolk alongside the meal. Healthy fats are essential for growth, brain development, and the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins.
❤️ I also served beetroot separately as a finger food to encourage self-feeding, texture exploration, biting, and chewing skills.
At 7½ months, food is not just about nutrition—it’s also about learning, exploring, and building lifelong eating skills.
📌 Always modify textures according to your baby’s age, developmental readiness, and chewing abilities, and introduce foods individually while watching for any allergies.
