Subhodayam.

वाचां शौचं च मनसः शौचमिन्द्रियनिग्रहःl

We live in a world often focused on outward appearances and physical cleanliness. Everything is dependent on external circumstances or worldly scale.

Simplicity and purity don't go together any longer as truth gets obscured through unnecessary complexity and inner character looses it's meaning and validity.

Elaborate rituals and display do not confer anything as purity is not a destination we reach through water or any other, but a harmony we achieve through our character.

When our speech is anchored in truth and softened by kindness, our breath itself becomes a prayer.

The mind is the lens through which we perceive reality. If the lens is clouded by envy, anger, or ego, the world appears distorted.

Our senses can lead us toward chaos or toward peace. Purity of the senses isn't about denial, but about mindful choice. Restraint is not a restriction; it is the ultimate freedom from being a slave to our impulses.

The highest purity is compassion for all living beings. This is the realization that the same life force flowing through you flows through every creature.

When we act with empathy, we are no longer separate... we are part of the cosmic web.

Remember, true cleanliness is internal and ethical rather than just physical. True purity is found when your thoughts are clear, your words are honest, your senses are disciplined and your heart is open to the suffering of others.

This is the path of the seeker, this is the essence of a life well-lived.

Subhodayam.

वेदाहं सूत्रं विततं यस्मिन्नोताः प्रजा इमाः ।
सूत्रं सूत्रस्य यो वेद स वेद ब्राह्मणं महत् ॥
"vedāhaṃ sūtraṃ vitataṃ yasminnotāḥ prajā imāḥ | sūtraṃ sūtrasya yo veda sa veda brāhmaṇaṃ mahat ||"
'I know the long-stretched thread on which all these creatures are strung. He who knows the thread of that thread, knows the Great Absolute (Brahman).' -Atharva Veda (10.8.38):

Today is Kanuma, the third but most important day of the Sankranti festival. The day specifically dedicated to the animals and the environment that sustains us.

Our identity is not solitary... we are part of a cosmic web. To honor cattle is to recognize the "inviolable" sanctity of all life forms.

We are not isolated islands but part of a living, breathing network... there is no better time to reflect on the "Golden Thread" that binds us to all living beings than this day.

When you speak of affixing inviolable identities to religion, understand that each religion is a "jewel" on the net. Each has its own specific location, shape, and inviolable boundary.

While the individual forms/religions/identities may appear separate, the thread is one. To remain committed to this exclusionary cause is to exclude the surface-level differences and focus solely on the unifying "thread" of existence.

If Bhogi was the fire of purification and Makar Sankranti was the light of the universal soul, Kanuma is the celebration of Sacred Interdependence.

Exclude the illusion of separation, exclude transactional, fear-based worship. Move in favor of a loving, grounded relationship with the Divine in nature.

Remember, you are an inviolable, integral part of Nature, just as every other.

Subhodayam.

माघे मासि महापुण्ये सूर्ये मकरराशिगे ।
यद्दत्तं तदक्षयं स्यादिति वेदविदो विदुः ॥
"māghe māsi mahā-puṇye sūrye makara-rāśige | yad-dattāṁ tad-akṣayaṁ syād-iti veda-vido viduḥ"
'In the holy month of Magha, when the Sun enters the sign of Capricorn (Makar), whatever is given in charity becomes 'Akshaya' (imperishable/inviolable). So say the knowers of the Vedas.' -Skanda Purana, Vaishnava Khanda, Māgha Māhātmya (1,32)

Today is Makar Sankranti, the festival of Alignment. If Bhogi was the ritual of "burning away" the old, Makar Sankranti is the celebration of the "Inviolable Light" that emerges once everything is cleared.

Sankranti is a celebration of 'Samyak Kranti'— 'Complete Transformation.'

It also marks the transition of the Sun into the northern hemisphere... the Uttarayana, signaling a shift from darkness to light and from inertia to spiritual awakening.

It represents the ascent of human consciousness. It is the moment when we stop looking at our shadows (the past) and start walking toward the Light (the Absolute).

The bathing ritual or "Holy Dip" is a reminder that while the body can be soiled, the inner spirit remains inherently pure. You are symbolically "excluding" the layers of ego, social status and temporary worries.

The water doesn't "give" you purity; it washes away the "veils" that hide the purity you already possess. You go in as a "person" and emerge as a "soul."

As the water leaves your hands to join the earth, visualize any "fragmented identities" or "exclusionary fears" leaving you, leaving only the "Inviolable Self."

From this day on, let us leave behind the grudges and small identities that kept us narrow-minded.

As we celebrate the physical harvest in the field, let us also celebrate the spiritual harvest of our virtues and the soul's wisdom. Let our words become sweet and heart, resilient.
