Hemanta Ritu — the pre-winter phase where Agni rises high, hunger deepens, and the body’s strength naturally increases.
Ayurveda says this is the season to nourish deeply.
Acharyas recommend high-calorie, warm, snigdha and wholesome foods to support the strong digestive fire and build robust tissues.
With shorter days, longer nights, and heightened appetite, the body demands more fuel and warmth.
This is also the time to increase the frequency of Abhyanga — ideally make it a daily ritual.
Use warm medicated oils to counter winter dryness, strengthen muscles and keep Vata calm.
Follow it with a bath using Kashaya-dravyas or herbal powder mixes, which enhance circulation and keep the body refreshed.
Ayurveda even suggests Mallayuddha (wrestling / strength practices) during Hemanta — not just to burn the extra calories from nourishing foods, but also to generate heat and maintain stamina.
Don’t forget Shiro Abhyanga to stay warm, grounded, and mentally calm through the cold.
Hemanta is the season to nourish, oil, strengthen and thrive.
