Pain, swelling or numbness when you raise your arm? Don’t ignore the pattern.

When symptoms appear during overhead activities, they can sometimes be linked to compression of nerves or blood vessels near the collarbone and first rib.

Watch out for symptoms such as:
• Arm pain or swelling
• Heaviness or numbness
• Colour changes in the hand or arm
• Unusual or rapid fatigue

The cause can vary, so proper evaluation is important to understand whether the problem is neurological, venous or arterial.

If these symptoms keep coming back, get them assessed rather than simply working through the discomfort.

🌸 What happens to a fibroid after Uterine Artery Embolization (UAE)?

UAE works by reducing the blood supply to the fibroid. Over time, the fibroid gradually shrinks, while the uterus is preserved. It’s a minimally invasive treatment option that can offer recovery with less downtime.

If fibroids are affecting your daily life, speak with a specialist to understand whether UAE is right for you. 💙

A blocked artery in the leg is not just a cause of pain it can also affect wound healing and, in severe cases, put the limb at risk.

In this case, the patient had peripheral arterial disease affecting the left leg, with a significant blockage restricting blood flow. Through angioplasty and stenting, we were able to reopen the narrowed segment and create a clear channel for blood flow.

With circulation restored, the goal was to relieve his walking pain, improve blood supply to the foot, and support healing of the wound on his second toe helping us avoid a potentially devastating amputation.

This is why timely evaluation and treatment of leg artery blockages are so important. If you experience persistent leg pain while walking, non-healing wounds, or changes in the foot, please don’t ignore them.

Urinary symptoms don’t always mean an enlarged prostate. Are you sure about the cause?

Frequent urination, difficulty starting, a weak urine stream, or waking up multiple times at night can be associated with benign prostate enlargement (BPH). However, similar urinary symptoms may occur due to other urinary or prostate-related conditions.

The right approach is not to assume the cause but to identify it through proper clinical evaluation and appropriate investigations.

If you are experiencing persistent urinary symptoms, timely medical assessment can help determine the underlying cause and guide the right treatment.

A 70-year-old gentleman came to my OPD last week with severe calf pain. He could not walk even 50 metres without stopping.

He also had a small wound on his second toe, which was extremely painful.

The angiogram showed the real issue. The main blood vessel supplying his left leg was severely narrowed over a long segment. In some areas, the blockage was nearly 80–90%.

This is called Peripheral Arterial Disease or PAD. (https://www.vasculardoctorsravan.com/peripheral-arterial-disease-pad/)

Many patients ignore calf pain while walking, assuming it is due to age, diabetes or muscle strain. But when the blood supply to the leg reduces, even a small wound can become difficult to heal.

In this case, we first used a balloon to open the blocked artery gradually. Once the blood vessel had opened adequately, we proceeded with stenting.

If you are repeatedly stopping while walking because of calf pain, or you have a toe or foot wound that is not healing, get it evaluated early.

Watch Part 2 to see the stenting procedure and final angiogram.
