π Eclipses and Pregnancy: Letβs Separate Myths from Medical Facts π€°
Pregnant women are often advised to follow several restrictions during a solar or lunar eclipse. But is there any scientific evidence behind these beliefs?
There is no medical evidence that an eclipse:
β Causes birth defects or cleft lips
β Creates birthmarks when a mother touches her belly
β Harms the baby when knives or scissors are used
β Makes food toxic or unsafe to eat
β Causes pregnancy complications through harmful radiation
Birth defects and birthmarks may develop due to genetic, developmental, nutritional or environmental factorsβnot because of an eclipse.
Pregnant women should continue eating nutritious meals, drinking enough water, taking prescribed medicines and following their doctorβs advice. Unnecessary fasting may lead to dehydration, low blood sugar and exhaustion.
Important: Never look directly at a solar eclipse without certified protective eclipse glasses. This eye-safety precaution applies to everyone.
Stay informed. Stay healthy. Your baby is safe. π
