2 practices that have worked the best for me in my health and fitness journey as well as managing my PCOS symptoms are : TRACKING MY PERSONAL HABITS AND STICKING TO A ROUTINE, which can be a bit tricky when you are a working mom with young kids juggling multiple things at the same time. So, let's say I do it on most days 😊
This helps me to have a better understanding of what works, what doesn't, how my body is reacting to a change or to stress as well as go back and learn from all the collected data over the years.

An annual planner with a habit tracker is an excellent tool for this. Some of my favourites are from Alicia Souza and Space & beauty. You can even maintain a diary, notebook or an excel sheet to do this all by yourself or do it with a nutritionist, coach or your doctor. Tracking personal habits such as menstrual cycle, energy levels, satisfactory daily bowel movements, sleep, extent of cravings, acne and hirsutism that month and wellbeing index helps to start noticing patterns or identify any red flags.

This doesn't feel like a chore or an obsession. Instead when I have a routine it makes me feel more settled, calm and in control. Having said that on days when due to extenuating circumstances, I am unable to do these things; I am not hard on myself at all and just go with the flow.

Let me know if you use similiar tools and how they help you.

Our menstrual cycle has an effect on our mood, energy levels, motivation and may even cause bloating for a few days. This is PHYSIOLOGICAL! Hence, it is practical to choose different workouts based on where we are in the cycle. This makes one's exercise routine fun and not feel like a chore. Also, this awareness reduces the pressure you would put on yourself as well as the guilt you may feel.
Personally, I try to be active all 7 days a week whether it is in the form of strength training, a relaxing yoga flow or even going out for walks. Choose a combination that is easy and enjoyable for you!

Starting off the next video on Symptoms Management in our series "A Doctor's Journey With PCOS" - Hormonal acne.

There is a lot of content available on skin-care but I strongly believe that any effective skin-care routine has to be consistent yet adaptable based on your skin's condition at the time. Over the past many years I have found that taking care of my skin with a gentle morning and night routine is extremely calming and brings me a lot of joy.

Video on products that work for me is coming next!

Toxic body norms and rigid restraints in today's diet culture are so normalised that we ignore the detrimental effects these may have on a young woman's impressionable mind.

Food is not just about how we look but it is for nutritional adequacy leading to optimum energy levels, good digestive health, a strong mind-gut connection as well as shared joy and social bonding with family and friends. In one's journey towards weight loss, one may often forget this.

A good combo of high fibre complex carbs, protein and healthy fats in every meal with regular workouts that don't feel like a chore will help you transform into a better version of yourself. Remember it's a marathon, not a sprint!

The second video in our series, "A Doctor's journey with PCOS" on Nutrition will be out on our YouTube channel soon.
